Comic for Thursday, March 15th, 2007

In no way indicative of how 2.0 is when she's sick. Oh, wait, in all ways.

Posted: 8:50 am, Thursday, March 15th

Rare experience for me last night - for only the second time and for the first time while conscious, I took a car from midtown back to Five Bucks world headquarters last night. Unfortunately, this involved me being at work 'til ten thirty, which is not my preferred method of rolling, but at least the car service was free. Even better, I got to ride instead of drive, an experience that has become very rare for me - I was about to say it was the first time I was a passenger since Thanksgiving, but I forgot 2.0 and I took a car from Dumbo a few weeks ago after a dinner date. My philosophy to getting around this city is that I've paid $76 for my monthly Metrocard, I am going to make Goddamn certain to use it whenever possible. I can't swipe a cab ride on my Metrocard, so no taxis for this cat. Anyway, I knew that the Battery Tunnel was probably the easier way to go, but I've never been a passenger over the Brooklyn Bridge - in fact, I don't know that I've ever driven over the Brooklyn Bridge. I seem to remember that it was the Manhattan that I piloted MJL and myself over before the '05 'thon. Anyway, man, New York really is beautiful at night. I didn't even mind the car skirting Times Square right after it picked me up. And being able to really take in the scenery of the promenade going west on the BQE - man, I gotta get 2.0 to learn stick so I can do that more often.

So, as beautiful as New York is at night, it's apparently also crazy. What the hell is this? Gunman must've been crazy. That all took place in actually a pretty nice part of town. Wild.

The Madness begins today! I totally forgot to make a copy of my bracket before handing it in to the office bookie. Oh well. Anyone wanting in on yet one more bracket, I've got two options for you. The boys over at Her Loyal Sons (which I really need to add to the sidebar links) have one, as does my favorite review-everything site, Pajiba. You can even win crap at that second one. (And I need to get some thoughts together on their comic book list that the TV Whore threw up there the other day.) Reginald D. Ho is in Vegas right now, and is putting some money down on a few of the games for me - Bullfrog need a new pair of shoes. Literally, my sneakers are falling to crap. Good luck to everyone's team, unless they're Winthrop. Or Boston Collitch. Or Duke.

Thanks for the bday wishes :) I spent the day not working and then watching the DirecTv guy install television access just in time for some basketball! thank goodness!

Miyaa -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 11:09 am

For the first time in years, I'm not going to enter one of these bracket contests. I'm probably not even going to watch the tourney at all. It's part of what I'm giving up for Lent.

Rachel Ray and Dunkin Donuts? What the hell?

And are subway info microphones that bad? Bad as in restaurant drive-through bad? (And once again, Pete screws Ron.)

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 11:36 am

They can be pretty bad. One of my favorite clips from Futurama was when Bender transformed into one of those old-style rail cars with the teeter-totter push mechanisms you always saw in old Bugs Bunny cartoons and made a barely intelligible announcement in subway fashion. I also loved the Xmas episode where Santa Claus was a homicidal robot.

Rachel Ray is quickly eliminating things that the Secretary can consume.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 11:48 am

I just filled out my fourth bracket, actually (only one for money). This one has a grand prize of a PSP, and a third-place prize of a case of vodka. Come oooonnnnnnn, third place!

Miyaa -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 11:53 am

Don't get me wrong, I like Rachel Ray. But there's just so far a perky personality can go without going totally Wal-Mart on you. And really, she's plastered on too many damn things as it is already. (As you may suspect, I do not have a perky personality. But it's not David Spade-like either. It got me fired at Wal-Mart when I was a young college student.)

Ho's damn lucky. I drove through Las Vegas a few weeks ago, and man, the strip is highly overrated. The casinos aren't, but the strip itself is highly overrated. Well, that and it was so windy I thought the car would fall over Hoover Dam as I was driving through to Arizona. Really weird way to get to Arizona from Las Vegas.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 12:00 pm

Twenty minutes to tip-off. I'm pulling for Maryland, Texas Tech, and Louisville in the opening slate. Nothing good should ever happen to Boston Collitch.

Secretary -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 01:05 pm

Now I can't go to the Dunkin Donuts at the end of our street! Stupid-bubbly-not-even-a-real-chef Rachel Ray.

OK. I really don't hate her that much. She just annoys me with her perkiness and enthusiasm 24/7.

I'm only monitoring scores... does anyone know if Stanford is fielding a full team?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 01:52 pm

A full team of trees.

MNP -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 02:18 pm

So much for Bobby Knight's boys. sorry, Bullfrog.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 02:33 pm

Pretty much the only way to get me to root for Bobby Knight is to match him up against BC.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 02:46 pm

Who else has Oral Roberts? Sing it, sister!

Miyaa -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 04:32 pm

Maybe it's just me, but if a bracket pool where Vodka is a third place prize, I'd go up to the pool shark and smack him upside the head a couple of times and say, "What are you thinking, man? Get your priorities straight!"

Vodka should be a Second Place prize, at least.

Oral Roberts vs. Notre Dame. Who would Jesus root for?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 15 2007, 05:46 pm

Our Lady's University v. a guy who said God would kill him if he didn't raise eight million bucks?

I'm gonna take door number one, Monty.
