Hop in the way-back machine with me.

Posted: 8:50 am, Wednesday, January 17th

Alright, so, we’re piece-mealing this thing together ‘til I get my computer fixed or replaced or whatever I wind up doing with it. This, in all likelihood, means later and less substantial posts for the time being. I’m sorry about that, but I don’t see much of a way around it. By the way, this strip was drawn on my ancient ol' laptop that can only hack Illustrator 10, in case there's a visible difference from the recent strips - most notably the size of the panels, since I more or less had to freestyle on that and approximate. Tomorrow's will be better, since I'm going to bring some of the newer strips onto that machine so I at least have the frame templates. The colors may be off, too, although the flesh tone looks pretty OK.

Oh, I mentioned that there was something that I wanted to get to yesterday, so I m’ise well do this. I meant to make New Year’s resolutions a few weeks back, but didn’t, so then I meant to make Martin Luther King, Jr., Day Resolutions, but truth be told, I didn’t even get around to doing that. So today I’m making my January 17th Resolutions. They are numerous and uninteresting and not even really all that ambitious (for instance, one of them is “Get married,” which seems like it’s a lofty goal until one remembers I’m already engaged), so I won’t list them in their entirety here. The only one that has much to do with the site is that I hereby resolve to get my act together and make a t-shirt worth purchasing at some point during 2007. 15’s been on my case for a year now to roll a shirt out for y’all, and she’s remarkably persistent. I kicked around an idea maybe a year and a half ago that I was thinking about, but I think I’ve moved past it now to a different idea. I’ll keep you all posted, which I’m sure you’re thrilled about.

In the meantime, check out this sweet make-your-own t-shirt guide from the Instructables – more do-able than the paint-your-own-laptop guide they have yesterday. (Making your own t-shirt is evidently the new hotness - there's a bunch of books about t-shirts that are in the same size and shape as the omnipresent Stitch n' Bitch in Barnes and Nobles these days.)

In instances of seeing my name in print, or hearing it spoken, this one falls well below Kelly Kapowski saying, "Jeremiah, I love you," during Saved by the Bell: The College Years. (Oh, speaking of another one, someone at a party I was at this weekend asked me if I ever saw the short-lived Showtime series, Jeremiah. I have not, but it starred Luke Perry, who is for some reason dating Renee Zellweger. Or something. I don't know, but here are photographs of the two of them juxtaposed. Good enough for me.)

I haven't actually read any of these yet, but since the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation was sandpaper rough, I'm kind of looking forward to it.

OK, I should get this up and get to work. Later, y'all.

Ha-ha, fuck Michigan.

http://mgoblog.blogspot.com/2007/01/well-thats-awful.html

Whitey -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 09:41 am

Hah!! Good times in Ann Arbor!

Make the shirt, I'll buy two.

Ah, there's the Pete we know and love!

15 -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 10:04 am

hooray! tshirts!

now on to my next mission: have you considered making CARDINAL RED t-shirts? (kidding kidding)

MNP -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 10:48 am

tshirts are good things :) particularly if you can get them in different sizes (hint, hint)

Wood -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 11:35 am

So how does one go about become the Leprechaun at football games? Or get tickets?

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 12:43 pm

The leprechaun is actually picked through a try-out process, and I'm not sure if that is open to grad students.

The football tickets are much easier. You'll get word about it the first week you're on campus, if it's the same as it is for undergrads. Basically, it's a lotto system for where you sit, but you're guaranteed tickets (for the low, low cost of 50% off the normal price - which is still something like thirty bucks a game, I think).

hey -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 03:29 pm

why wasn't the header for today's strip "he loved the Golden Gophers but he hated all the drawn out winters" ?? that would've been logical ... and cool.

you have a great cartoon here. i stumbled across this recently and have been enjoying it.

PS, agree w/ Fuck Michigan sentiments!

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 04:11 pm

'Cause I generally just write a lyric from whatever song I'm listening to as I write the blog, and today I was listening to the Coup's Laugh/Love/Fuck instead of the Hold Steady's Stuck Between Stations. 2.0 and I are seeing the Hold Steady tomorrow night, though.

And thanks for the kind words, they be much appreciated.

Secretary -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 04:29 pm

It was 70 degrees in Charlotte over the weekend. There is a now a winter storm warning for overnight. With no sign of precipitation yet, and none predicted until 3am, salt is already being put down on the streets. My prediction: most of the schools in the area will announce by midnight that they're cancelling class tomorrow. And all the kids will be free to lay out and get a tan.

Whitey -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 04:43 pm

And in Chicagoland, we scoff at such doom and gloom preparation for less than an inch of snow.

Honestly, even the elderly are still traveling 10 mph over the speed "limit" until we get to at least 6 inches of snow. Closings don't start until we reach a foot. And the for the Catholic High School I attended, if you could still get there by dogsled, they wouldn't cancel.

Viva la Midwest!!

Secretary -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 04:50 pm

That's what makes living in the South during the winter so humorous for us native Midwesterners!

MNP -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 04:53 pm

Just to clarify, the reason I want sizes on t-shirts is b/c I hate extra large t-shirts that I can never really wear. NOT because I'm preggers!!

e -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 04:55 pm

If I remember right, the grad student seats are between the juniors and sophmores in the curve of the stadium. Not the best, but at least you are in the stadium for every game. Also, people used to camp out for tickets, but it was still done by lottery.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, January 17 2007, 05:02 pm

I think the no-fun squad that is Res Life has either squashed the campouts entirely or neutered them beyond recognition, E. I myself never camped out - Keebler told me the time the boys did it while we were in Rome was the worst experience of his life. And I don't think he felt that way because I wasn't there to liven things up.

Thanks for clarifying, MNP. That was why I e-mailed you earlier, actually.

Y'all are too excited. I needle him daily to put a shirt together. Movement is glacial at Fivebucks HQ.
