Comic for Friday, January 12th, 2007

A bone! A bone has been thrown for MNP and Pat and probably RAW although he said nothing to the effect. Granted, Pete voices it in his completely Cro-Magnon, backwards, Peteian way, but, still.
By the way, I have *no* idea what is going on with Pete's t-shirt.
I've been meaning to have the boys doing mundane stuff aside from sitting on their couch lately, also - hence the toothpaste. Although the foaming-at-the-mouth look works for Pete in the fourth panel, too.
Good article in the Times, from a conservative plot of land in Pennsylvania about reaction to the esca-surge of troops in Iraq. Of course, what actually matters is the reaction on the Hill, which has been pointed, but mostly just toward Condi, and not Shitwit himself. (Speaking of Condi...)
I think I've mentioned her repeatedly, but I'm honestly really psyched about the Lily Allen album coming out at the end of the month. Here she's got a little MTV short or something.
Grabbed tickets to see the Hold Steady again, next Thursday at Northsix. Somehow, I've been in the city for coming up on six years and this will be the first time I've ever been to Northsix. After that, Southpaw, and then, the world! Or something.
Something about the frequency witch which 2.0 observes that David Beckham is hot makes me unhappy about his signing with the LA ... whatever they are. Also: I think she intends to try and sneak an iPhone on the registry, which will make me feel even more justified in putting a PS3 on it. Whoo-ha!
Alright, this is all I've got right now. It's been a tremendously long week, one part because of it being the first full work week of the year, one part because of the fact I spent all of last Saturday in a bar and all of Sunday driving around the Hudson Valley, and one part because one of my coworkers has been in San Francisco all week watching Apples get unveiled while I've been home doing his work. Thankfully, my office gets MLK Day off, but, no worries, there will be strippage!

e -- Friday, January 12 2007, 09:54 am Let me be the first to wish everyone a Happy Confederate Generals Day! WHoo hoo! Raise those rebel flags! That's right, the Commonwealth of Virginia is celebrating Lee/Jackson Day. Yee Haw!
LA Galaxy and this should be a good thing for MLS. In fact the radio show I had on this morning suggested that Beckham will do for American soccer what the Beatles did for music. Not sure I'd go *that* far... but he is easy on the eyes.
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:00 am I don't think MLS needed to do this, actually. What MLS needs, and this is hard to preach because it involves a lot of money, but what MLS needs is patience. Youth soccer is huge right now, and in ten or fifteen years, when all those kids are the target demo, MLS will be in much better shape. I don't see Beckham being anything but a temporary shot in the arm (a la Pele back in '77 was for whatever soccer league the US was trying to launch back then).
And, man, stop reminding me when it's Confederate Generals' Day. It upsets my digestion.
MNP -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:16 am Youth soccer has always been huge. Seriously, I don't think I knew a single person growing up in St. Louis who DIDN'T play soccer as a youngster. and none of those people now go to games, so I don't think I buy your argument, Bullfrog. The only time I've ever seen Americans excited about soccer was when I was in San Francisco and the World Cup was there.
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:27 am Really? I didn't know anybody who played soccer growing up, 'til high school or so.
The other thing holding back MLS is that anyone who's of the mind to, can just order Fox World Sports or whatever and watch better matches on the telly. (Again, I think this will change when the current generation comes around, but in light of MNP's argument, I could be wrong. Which would be the first time in the history of ever, as we all know.)
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:27 am By the way, Space Ghost Coast to Coast? God, that show's hilarious.
Pat -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:29 am Awesome, I like Pete more every day.
Do we really need soccer to be so popular here? Granted I love the World Cup as much as everybody, but we've already got four major pro sports in this country (I'm counting the NHL, all you hockey-hating jagoffs) which, if you think about it, is way more than any other nation.
Pat -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:30 am You didn't know anybody who played soccer growing up? I think it was a requirement where I lived. For some reason I just played baseball and basketball, but I was the only one of my friends not in a soccer league.
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 10:40 am I grew up in the sticks - I don't even know if there's a youth soccer league *now,* although I imagine there probably is. Honestly, when my best friend through high school moved into the district in fourth grade and told me he loved soccer, I thought he was a freak. The soccer team in high school was kind of a big deal because we didn't have a football team (the schools in our athletic league were all small and poor, couldn't hack the insurance, was the reason I was always given), but even then it was 90% populated by dudes staying in shape for basketball season.
Whitey -- Friday, January 12 2007, 11:21 am Sorry, Soccer won't take off in the States until they replace the ball with the head of an executed criminal and have strippers for cheerleaders. It's too slow paced for the common masses to invest 3 hours. Why do you think all the big 4 (I'll include the NHL) keep changing rules to promote scoring? Scoring = excitement. Anyway, I "get" soccer, and the strategy used to set up scoring chances, but I'd much rather attend a football game that (unless Oakland and Detroit are involved) could end in a 0-0 score.
That's my $.02.
Whitey -- Friday, January 12 2007, 11:22 am Um.. couldn't end in a 0-0 score. (It's Friday Dept.)
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 11:24 am Hee-hee, I love the first three of the Photoshops on this one.

The Friends on kills me for some reason.
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 12:19 pm Wow, crazy article on the traffic patterns in Manhattan. In a million years, I never would've guessed that most car commuters are coming from the outer boroughs. Those people = crazy-ass suckas. One of my great morning pleasures is watching the traffic report, laughing, and then drawing on the subway.

Whitey -- Friday, January 12 2007, 12:24 pm What's the furry tail like thing in the top left hand corner of panel 3?
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 12:31 pm It's the stuffed eagle I made back in high school home ec class (no football, but yes sewing). I have it on the wrong side of the wardrobe, unfortunately.

Whitey -- Friday, January 12 2007, 12:40 pm Ah... okay, I see. Home Ec, ugh. I still have horrendous "shoe pillow" that I cobbled together in the mandatory class I had to take in Junior High. Thank God (no pun intended) I went to Catholic High School where we had money for sports, but not "vocational" classes.
crownover -- Friday, January 12 2007, 02:10 pm totally unrelated... this is a funny quiz:

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 02:40 pm Not much of a surprise here, I'm Spider-Man.
Grafe -- Friday, January 12 2007, 02:50 pm 55% spider man, 55% hulk.
hulk smash! must have been all the anti-social answers.
Bullfrog -- Friday, January 12 2007, 03:26 pm That and your purple pants.
e -- Friday, January 12 2007, 04:21 pm I'm Superman/Supergirl.
Soccer in the US has two main problems 1. it is at best the 5th most popular and 2. the most talented players go to Europe to make a living which means the quality of game in the US suffers. It takes the World Cup tournaments for most Americans to see top notch soccer.
Secretary -- Friday, January 12 2007, 04:38 pm I'm 75% Spider-Man, 65% Superman
I'm "intelligent, witty, a bit geeky and have great
power and responsibility."
Well, the geeky part is right!
MNP -- Saturday, January 13 2007, 04:26 pm I'm spiderman & robin. Robin?
Bullfrog -- Monday, January 15 2007, 09:45 am Son of a ... OK, I a) woke pretty late, and b) am having that RAM issue again with my computer. I was hoping the re-seating trick would keep working, but it looks like I may need to just order some new. Shit. Well, we'll be back up tomorrow, for sure, and hopefully I can coerce the laptop into working again this afternoon or something.
MJL -- Monday, January 15 2007, 05:01 pm RAM definitely can fry. Malec fixed his PC by replacing the RAM. Ahhh, those were heady days.
This is Chicago... this is not Chicago.
MNP -- Monday, January 15 2007, 09:51 pm Bullfrog, did you f*** the pooch?
