Comic for Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Posted: 7:35 am, Friday, December 22nd
Much easier to find a screencap of How the Grinch Stole Christmas than any of the Stacy Carosi episodes of Saved by the Bell, that's for sure. The really not-subtle part of me thought about making this entire week so that you could 'hear' the background music (ie, writing a line or two of the song in each panel) and ending this one with Long December, but, thankfully, that part of me got voted down in committee.
A few random things to entertain the folk stuck at offices, and then some Christmas well-wishin', and then enough of me for a week or so.
I forget how I found this item about Archie comics, but, God, look what they're doing to Archie comics next year. Why would you change the look of the Riverdale gang? Do they even bother to track the sales of those things? If one issue of the Betty and Veronica Double Digest experiences a jump in sales, do they figure that people approve of the storyline of that particular issue, or that more people than usual just needed something from the grocery store checkout line to shut their screaming kid up? Also, not to get into the discussion about hottie comic lasses again, but I way perfer the look of the Betty and Veronica on the right - I guess that's an example from the '40s? I'm assuming the creating artist was still on the job then, since it wasn't totally genericized, but that's a pretty snazzy look those two girls have working.
This is just something I found while googling around about the Clerks soundtrack, from yesterday's discussion. I love the internet sometimes - watching a bunch of morans talk themselves out of a flash mob is good entertainment.
The comptroller is third-highest elected official in the state? Wow. I had no idea.
Alright, now onto the Christmas spectacular. I found something awesome for y'all, it's right under the tree. Ignore the plywood-mounted tree stand.
Alright, check it out. Some dude assembled 101 Christmas videos. Just about every cartoon special you can think of is here - not the Glo-Worm Christmas special I just for some fucking reason thought of, but there's more here than you can probably watch between now and Christmas. Honestly, it's a treasure trove. Knock yourselves out.
So, hope you're all set and bound for somewhere where someone lubs you, or at least has some nog ready. My mom's got a pot of suddenly traditional seafood stew that we're going to tear into tomorrow, and then it's off to the 585 come Monday for various celebrations. The Five Bucks gang will be back on New Year's Day, very possibly at noon-ish or so. We'll see you then, gang. Thanks for hangin' out for the year. Merry Christmas, happy Boxing Day!

Zero -- Friday, December 22 2006, 08:42 am Merry X-mas and thanks for a great year of comics. May you find a Sox closer under your tree (if he's named Gonzales that'd be cool).

Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 08:53 am Hey, more Christmas goodies - You Don't Know Jack hast evidently returned!

I have a great story about almost being murdered by an insane American in Rome because of my playing this game in a bathroom at two in the morning, but I'll save it for another day.
crownover -- Friday, December 22 2006, 08:59 am i see my ornament front and center -- awesome!!
CK -- Friday, December 22 2006, 09:02 am My sister has never forgiven me for deliberately taping over her copy of "Saved by the Bell: Hawaiian Style" when I was fourteen and she was eight. So this year I bought her a "Bayside Tigers" t-shirt to renew the Christmas love.
For all of us in the office and elsewhere -- God bless us, everyone!
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 09:11 am No you don't, Crownover. That picture was taken a few weeks back.
Oh, man, the one where Screech became king of the Hawaiians and Jesse's dad remarried? That was a great one.
And is this the shirt you're talking about?

skt -- Friday, December 22 2006, 09:28 am miss jessie spano came to the school where i work not too long ago to speak with our female students about hiv and self respect.
yes. there was much debate about cultural relevance - saved by the bell is so white america ten years ago AND she was a pole dancer in showgirls (right? i never saw it). how she related to african american preadolescents is beyond me.
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 09:35 am Wow. My head asplode.
RAW -- Friday, December 22 2006, 09:45 am Did anybody know the real origin of Festivus? It was apparently invented by the father of one of the Seinfeld writers and celebrated long before the Seinfeld episode.

Whitey -- Friday, December 22 2006, 10:03 am Christmas wishes, comptrollers and Jessie Spano all in the same website...
This is why Five Bucks is my first destination every morning.
Peace, love and (apparently) GAP to you and yours.
GO IRISH!!! BEAT TIGERS!!!
CK -- Friday, December 22 2006, 10:08 am Yes! My sister can dress like Pete!
I'm going to print out that cartoon and give it to her with the t-shirt.
CK -- Friday, December 22 2006, 10:13 am Not, of course, that this is something I normally want my sister to aspire to . . .
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 10:19 am We're never very far from Saved by the Bell here at Five Bucks to Friday.
I wish I had a spare moment to redraw that particular strip for you, CK. Really didn't start hitting my stride with the artwork (mostly the Wacom tab I draw with, I think) until late '05 or so. Maybe Pete'll have to break that shirt out again in the new year.
Zero -- Friday, December 22 2006, 11:48 am Okay, now you're scaring me - I pulled out my copy of YDKJ-The Ride yesterday for the first time in at least 2 years.
We've got ways of dealing with stalkers in the Dirty Jerz, you know.

Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 11:59 am I assure you, Zero, I spend no more time in the Garden State than absolutely necessary. I'm just not classy enough to appreciate its glory, so I remove myself so as not to occupy the square footage required for someone who can revel in its Jerseyness appropriately.
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 12:46 pm Oh, man, I love You Don't Know Jack. This is bringing me way back.
Pat -- Friday, December 22 2006, 01:00 pm Merry Christmas, homes. I gotta admit, I actually felt a little sad at today's last panel. Your comic is straight-up impactful, yo!
Secretary -- Friday, December 22 2006, 01:28 pm I would just like to thank God that I'm still alive after driving in the dark, pouring rain with fog as thick as soup at 6am today. I guess I should be thankful that's all I had to deal with as my brother and his wife and 2-year old have been stuck in the Denver airport since yesterday. And I'm not at work!
Merry Christmas to all from Columbus, Ohio!
I LOVE You Don't Know Jack! Too bad I didn't think to ask for that for Christmas.
Bullfrog -- Friday, December 22 2006, 01:57 pm At least you did the right thing and checked in on Five Bucks right away, Sec.
Thanks, Pat - I do what I can.
I'm out of the office, squad - may check in later in the afternoon, likely not. Everyone travel safe, find some mistletoe and a hottie, and kick back the nog. See you on New Year's!
Miyaa -- Friday, December 22 2006, 02:36 pm Love Jack. Now, I'll have to see about getting a full game.
It occurred to me, Five Bucks needs a zany vacation plot. Or a Road Rules spoof. Four couples, a winnebago, and all the martinis Lissa can drink. What could possibly go wrong?
e -- Wednesday, December 27 2006, 01:31 pm Anyone else back in the office? So quiet.
Bullfrog - do you still have my copies of YDKJ??
Still on a sugar cookie high. Merry Xmas.
skt -- Wednesday, December 27 2006, 02:13 pm me! i'm here. it's great. i wish i never worked with anyone!
crownover -- Thursday, December 28 2006, 11:21 am it's dead here too....
Wood -- Thursday, December 28 2006, 01:59 pm This week is even more difficult to suffer through without my morning comics. Please help frog, we need you.
