Ron's a brave man.

Posted: 7:35 am, Tuesday, November 21st

Alright, I have nearly recovered from Thanksgiving-ish. It is difficult for me to verbalize the amount of dishes I had to do yesterday - "all of them" comes close, but is still wanting in some way. Nevertheless, the dishes, they have been vanquished, and the sun has set on the fifth annual Thanksgiving-ish (this edition was dubbed "The Bloodening," because I am not very creative). The Thanksgiving-ish is a tradition born back in my wild young days, when as a wee pup of.. 24? Ish? Yeah, when I was 24, I thought it would be fun to have a sitcom Thanksgiving with just friends and no family or adults of any sort. The no-adults thing has kind of passed, now that all the attendees are in their late 20s or even into their fourth decade of life, but the spirit has maintained. Anyone out there looking for a fun tradition to start, I highly recommend the Thanksgiving-ish. It is a lot of work - "all of them" still comes up wanting, and not just because it makes no sense in that context - but it is a whole lot of fun. Thanks to the attendees, some of whom read the site.

Moving on! It's almost the real Thanksgiving. I have no idea I'm going to eat any more turkey, but I feel comfortable in giving it a shot. 2.0 and I take off tomorrow afternoon and hopefully manage to miss some of the traffic on 87 - not a likely scenario, but, hopefully. By the way, awesome, easy dish if you need to bring something to wherever you're having Thanksgiving - a sweet potato apple casserole. Good ol' Elise linked to it, and I made it for the Thanksgiving-ish. It went over great, and I even forgot to add the orange juice at the end (after making a special trip for the orange juice and everything - I'm such a knob sometimes).

Boy, do I have a treat for you. I found this via Stereogum and their comments, the best of which was, "This is the short version of the song. The eight-minute version has more solos." I have no idea how it is possible to have more solos, but I can pretty much guarantee this will be the most over-the-top ass-kicking metal video you see this week. I give you - DRAGON FORCE.

Whooo. My fingers burn.

What with all the football, I only just now noticed that the both the Irish soccer teams are in the Elite Eight of the NCAAs. The men go to Virginia to play on Friday night, and the #1-ranked women play either Penn State or Boston fucking Collitch at home the same evening. Go Irish!

So, the hatred is beginning to flow towards Los Angeles. Good. They are wankers and deserve it.

Beat SC!

Jeremiah's hammer moment was when he told me he was watching pro wrestling. I went into work the next day and asked my boss if it was OK for me to continue dating a guy who watches men in spandex pretend to kick the shit out of each other.

He said no.

Here's to not taking advice!

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 09:17 am

And then she broke my cable, just to make sure I couldn't watch it anymore.

e -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 10:03 am

yes, someone PLEASE explain the pro wrestling fascination.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 10:10 am

Man getting hit in head with folding chair = awesome.

e -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 10:31 am

Last night that Nitro guy was using a ladder.

MNP -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 10:52 am

e - why why WHY do you know that????

e -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 11:00 am

My TV was commandiered by a "fan" of WWE.

Pat -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 11:58 am

This is the most ridiculously metal video I've seen recently:

Synchronized Viking headbanging!

Watch wrestling at least 3 nights a week and love every minute of it. Have you no respect for sports? Viva la Mucha Lucha! By the way, Flair and Rowdy Roddy have the tag team belt. While the world continues to change, apparently wrestling has stayed the same for the last 20+ years.

e -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 01:19 pm

Do they still sell those pillow-dolls of wrestlers?

Whitey -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 01:51 pm

Okay... hold up a second.

The "Metal" band has a keyboard player?????

I'm having a hard time equating instrument with pre-loaded "bossa nova" beat, with Kick Ass Metal band.

Fuck SC. That Poodle Website bullshit on HTRB has really got the dander up.

Go Irish!!!

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 02:15 pm

I wasn't really sure what to call them - metal wasn't a great fit, but it was the best I could come with at the time. My bad.

Whitey -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 02:44 pm

No, no, I was commenting on the "Dragon Force's" inclusion of a keyboard player, not your choice of descriptor. I'm assuming it's the little brother of the lead singer or some such.

Sorry for the confusion... Condoms week just has me a little charged up.

Go Irish!

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 03:14 pm

Oh, so sorry, Jeter, but you're still not an MVP to anyone. Way to let the Go! Team down.

Wood -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 04:21 pm

Dragon Force is bad-ass. They come from the Manowar school of 80s cheesy metal. But that doesnt make it not awesome...

Any musical group that can include vikings and barbarians doing battle in front of half nude women get my thumbs up.

2.0 -- Tuesday, November 21 2006, 05:03 pm

I did not break his cable. And, I might add, he didn't pay for said cable, it just happened to be there when he moved in . My guess is the cable company wised up.

(thank god)
