I got a new phone about a month ago, and the alarm setting is really wonky on it, so I overslept by about forty minutes this morning. So you're getting an extremely truncated post, for which I'm sorry. But it's not like I ever have anything worthwhile to say, anyway.
Slight error in the comic, although since I'm making it knowingly, I'm not too worried - Magnolia's not open 'til two thirty in the morning. I just thought it would be a good way for Ron and Mara to end their first date-ish.
The Irish have won 42 in a row over the University of Navy, and go for 43 straight tomorrow. I will be there in my undefeated lucky live shirt, bright and early, in the rain. Here's the highlights from the first win in the streak:
Man, I can not get enough of that narrator. These highlights crack me up. I can't believe that's the evolutionary precursor to Stuart Scott. Sigh.
Alright, that's all, 'cause I've got to get on the move, here. Go Irish, beat Middies!

NO! Not the shirt! Please don't wear the shirt!
Miyaa -- Friday, October 27 2006, 07:52 am
My parents got me a cell phone that has the sound of rain as its ring tone. It's the only ringtone on that thing (I don't know how to change it, and they're cheap bastards at times), so I can't possibly hear it over my tinnis.
So, I never able to answer the phone. It was either this or that accursed ESPN mobile phone.
Think the Navy-Notre Dame game will be close or a blow-out?
Bullfrog -- Friday, October 27 2006, 08:54 am
Dude, we're 7-0 in that shirt. No way I'm not wearing it.
Game'll be comfortable, but probably not a blow-out. Between the Irish deciding to go the methodical route instead of quick-strike, and Navy's running attack that keeps the clock moving, the game will be too short, barring defensive scores for the Irish, to get that out of hand.

By the way, cheers to the Hokies last night for offing Clemson. Now just don't let freaking Fredo win the ACC.

The boys at the Blue-Gray Sky always break out some of their best stuff for the Navy game. Here's a letter from a Middie about the '67 game...
I can't think of any way to relate this post or these comments to the Cardinals, but I'm plowing through anyway.
One more win, and we'll bring the championship back to St. Louis, "where it goddamn belongs" (in the words of one of my favorite cardinals fans). I'm already too excited to be allowed, so am trying to settle down. It's not over yet, but even so, I'm so proud of them for getting this far!

I'm going to be driving down to Baltimore during the game, and I just remembered that the radio in my car doesn't work. That's a shame.
... Wait, no, it's not, actually. I think Joe Morgan's doing the radio play-by-play for ESPN radio. Never mind, this is a blessing. I'd feel obligated to listen, and I'd probably wind up crashing the car just to end the pain.
Whitey -- Friday, October 27 2006, 09:44 am
I agree that it will be comfortable, but I also thought the UCLA game would be as such. Navy, this year, however, doesn't have a solid leader at QB.
Thought the Cards were going to blow it after Inge hit that double of Wainwright. I guess the Baseball Gods were giving el Tigres a run after Granderson slipped... and then took it away with Monroe missing that catch by inches.
Shouldn't Eckstein just be saved for the playoffs? I seem to remember him coming up big for the Angels as well. It's crazy that this version of the Cards is on the brink of the World Champeenship.
Anyway, I think Darius has a good game tomorrow and gets a couple TDs.
GO IRISH!!

*that* shirt. Goodness, my eyes are aching in anticipation.
Reggie Ho -- Friday, October 27 2006, 11:14 am
Reggie requests that you wear another shirt under "the shirt" to cover up the high surface area of exposed skin. I agree that you must wear it to secure a victory, but, please, let's minimize its detrimental effects on the rest of us.
Bullfrog -- Friday, October 27 2006, 11:18 am
Well, it's going to be freaking raining out and probably thoroughly unpleasant, so it's a good bet I'll have at least a light jacket on over it.
I really can't remember ever being this jazzed for a Navy game before. Maybe the '02 game in Baltimore. Maybe.

more politics:
Apparently Harold Ford is an African American running in Tennessee. There is an ad by the RNC that protrays him as, "an uppity negro who does the wild thing with white women". Carry on RNC:

I didn't really get the uppity Negro vibe - most of the uppitiness seemed to be directed at the fact that he's a wild n' crazy tax n' spend Democrat whoooeeeee! - but that bit with the big-haired "Playboy bunny" is one of the worst-conceived things I've ever seen. Stunning.

For the ladies and non-traditional men in the house, here's Brady doing a beefcake spread. I knew about this before it hit Deadspin, but was hoping against hope it just died a quiet death.
The yellow is actually more orangish-gold, though. It's incredibly awesome - the primary gripe about it is that when I first got it, it was, shall we say, snug. I looked like I was shrink-wrapped into that thing. Two marathons later, it's not as small on me - we'll see how much I need to get back to running tomorrow, as I haven't worn it since last November.
Bullfrog -- Friday, October 27 2006, 02:59 pm
Alright, I am out to go get a headlight for my car and then sit in traffic on the Turnpike. Let's go, Irish!
e -- Friday, October 27 2006, 03:37 pm
The picture doesn't do that shirt justice. The shirt is also paper thin, which was worse when it was tighter.
GO IRISH!
Bullfrog -- Friday, October 27 2006, 04:44 pm
I think you're thinking of my "Thumbs up for taping Felicity for us" t-shirt.
There is a new standard of easy in the universe: replacing the front headlight on a '92 Protege. Dear God, it could not have been simpler.
Bullfrog -- Friday, October 27 2006, 05:02 pm
I just learned via the Power Hour that "Mids" is the preferred nomenclature, and that "Middies" can be seen as disrespectful. Don't want the bad karma of disrespecting the military, I'll save that for Rummy.
So, once again:
Go Irish! Beat Mids!

I totally respect the power of articles of clothing to influence the outcome of sporting events.
I still have the sweatshirt my date wore the the 93 Florida State game. I had just bought it, never worn and gave it to her to wear since it was a bit cold.
After the game I said, hey, I'll save this for the national championship game. It must be good luck.
