Comic for Friday, October 20th, 2006

I think this could be meta-humor, slightly.

Posted: 7:41 am, Friday, October 20th

Congrats to 15, Miyaa, coworker Ivor, and to whatever extent she cares, MNP. I can only hope Ondy thought of his infant son and the excellent left side of the infield the Mets have locked up for years to come as he stood on the Queensboro Bridge contemplating a jump last night, and backed off. In the middle of the eighth inning, I thought that game was going to go 17, at least. I only wish Aaron Heilman, Notre Dame attendee (no idea if he graduated or not), had not served up the series-losing home run to whichever Molina that was.

Remember that Yale douchebag that was mentioned last week? He made the New Yorker this week. Wow. Sadly, the article's not readily findable, but Gawker has a remix of his resume video. I must say, it is more impressive than the utterly bizarre personal statement I wrote that somehow got me into Notre Dame.

Neil Young's site has turned into a kind of spoof USA Today about Shitwit and the war. It's kind of cool.

Here's a link to Wilco's show from All Songs Considered yesterday. By the way, if you ever see them in concert, don't rush the stage unless you want to get popped (although you will get a heartfelt apology.)

The Irish return to action tomorrow against UCLA, and I'll be at the Manhattan gamewatch collecting suits and business clothes for homeless people as part of the service committee's efforts to legitimize ourselves. The Irish and Bruins haven't met since this 1964 tilt, won 24-0 by the Irish.

There's some Nick Eddy goodness in there, the awesome narration of Lindsey Nelson, and numbers 83 and 85 both being reported as being Jack Snow (I'm fairly certain he was 84). Also, Ara gets carried off the field at the end - which is odd, because the game only advanced our record to 4-0. Not a lot of games get the coach carried off the field in September. Also, we could win ten straight titles (like I habitually do on the PlayStation), and I don't think the Robot Genius would ever get carried off the field.

Go Irish, beat Bruins!

I care! I'm not sure its possible to grow up in St. Louis and not love the Cards. Ozzie Smith was my hero when I was 8 years old. that back flip!!

only problem is I keep falling asleep before the games are over. and I'll be in Mexico while the next series is being played, so #15 will just have to cheer a little extra loudly for me :)

skt -- Friday, October 20 2006, 08:20 am

i hate to say it, but i had a similar video that got me into yale. i mean, how else can you get accepted? the competition is really tough. apparently.

Whitey -- Friday, October 20 2006, 08:24 am

Congrats to the Cards. But Yadier Molina??? Really? Too weird... don't count them out against the Tigers. Their biggest issue will be gettng Carpenter and Weaver (again, Weaver?) enough rest.

Seems like forever since the Irish took the field, so here's my GO IRISH! post. Feeling good about the game. When you get a chance, check out the face mask the UCLA QB will be wearing. I got there through EDSBS, but I believe the blog is Bruin Nation.

So, without further ado, GO IRISH!!

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 20 2006, 09:38 am

Man, Little Dee is so friggin' cute.

Ondy -- Friday, October 20 2006, 09:50 am

No QB Bridge jumping here. The only solace I can even try to take is my wife and I aren't hostage to any more rainouts or tortously tense games. We can now get around to watching the Lost, Office, and Battlestar episodes that are cued up on DVR.

Getting dominated by frakkin' Jeff Suppan, twice!, is a rough way to lose a series.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 20 2006, 09:52 am

I can't believe that Suppan has won two Game 7s in the NLCS. Good move, Duquette!

Ondy, the key to unnerving Suppan is to get him on base. He'll flail around like a baby deer out there and then lose his edge.

15 -- Friday, October 20 2006, 10:21 am

I love Jeff Suppan!

I love Yadier Molina!

I love Adam Wainwright!

Actually I LOVE EVERYBODY (especially RAW, this lack of comment spam rocks)!

Reggie Ho -- Friday, October 20 2006, 10:38 am

I'm never going to carry the Robot Genius off the field. Not with the added weight he's packing this year.

MNP -- Friday, October 20 2006, 12:24 pm

For 15... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/20/AR2006102000032.html

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 20 2006, 12:28 pm

Did the Sox not have Suppan during the Duquette regime? I may be thinking of Sele, but I thought we had Suppan at some point prior to 2003 (when I know we had him), also. I could be wrong.

Sweaty -- Friday, October 20 2006, 02:08 pm

Yeah, the sox at one time had Suppan on the staff but it was durring the the Epstein regime.

Miyaa -- Friday, October 20 2006, 02:47 pm

Don't drink the water, MNP. I'm convinced it's left over residue from when they make tequila. The Aztecs invented tequila, right?

Bridesmaids look better in rich, dark colors than colors that the light pinks and blues that only are appropriate on the Spring/Easter version of M&Ms. And white tuxedos for the groomsmen.

I ended up watching the game on Fox instead of listening to either broadcast. You know, the high def was so good, I could see Fox executives falling out of their chairs during the post-game show when they realized they were getting Detroit-St. Louis World Series matchup. Maybe someone should warn them, that if the pattern holds like it was in the 1980's, the next year will have the horrific match-up of Kansas City vs. St. Louis.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 20 2006, 03:08 pm

Wouldn't we actually get the Mets-Orioles? The Loo and Detroit met in '68, after all.

And I assure you that I have absolutely no say in the matter of bridesmaid dresses.

Reggie Ho -- Friday, October 20 2006, 04:25 pm

No say in bridesmaid dresses might be a good idea for you. As far as white groomsmen tuxes...bad, bad idea.

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 20 2006, 04:57 pm

Outie, crowd. Big weekend - the Irish return to action, the Series starts, and Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D is out. Also, Florida State is breaking out those ridiculous fucking black jerseys to play Boston Collitch. I wish there was a way both those stupid schools could lose, but I don't think it will happen.

Excelsior!

Bullfrog -- Friday, October 20 2006, 05:04 pm

Wait, one last thing - the paper Spezio goatees Leitch mentions in this article? I'll give you one guess which deranged commentor on this blog was responsible for those things.

Next time you're in Kyoto, Japan, Bullfrog...

On the Japanese Culture Scale, this is at an 7 ½.
