Man, I have no idea why, but I really had fun with this one. I think "room room" put it over the top for me. By the way, two of 2.0's friends can quote the entirety of the film version of Clue. Seriously, there's no explaining that.
So, productive weekend around the Five Bucks to Friday world headquarters, but we'll talk about that later in the week. (Honestly, I still have stuff from a few weekends ago I keep forgetting to talk about.)(Why don't I just do it now? Because you may not be able to tell, but I usually try to work in themes here, and today's does not abide.)(Probably not the word I meant to use.) I actually had my act together to get some stuff ready for you on a Monday, for a change, and since there was no Irish this weekend, not much of it is even about football. (Although, we fucking dropped in the coach's poll? What the crap is that?)
Sweaty reminded me what the YouTube I wanted to post was. When I talked to him Thursday night, he was on his way back from a concert. Who'd he see, you ask? None other than Rockapella.
Evidently, those If You See Something, Say Something ads do produce results - some kids from Pratt got themselves arrested for some ill-advised protest art. Far be it from me to put the kibosh on art, but, guys, not good thinking.
More stuff from Gothamist, Bill Buford and Anthony Bourdain are doing a joint reading thing at the Half King in Chelsea tonight. A) The Half King has excellent burgers, perhaps my second-favorite in Manhattan. B) Buford's promoting Heat right now, but his Among the Thugs is an awesome book about hooligan culture in England that is a really harrowing read. Highly recommended. (And Tree's been enjoying Heat quite a bit, if I recall correctly.)
Last one from Gothamist, I saw this photo on the front page of the Slope Observer or whatever the hell it's called, and thought it was really an interesting and pobably ill-advised choice.
J&R has exclusive iPods? How weird. I kind of like the silver and blue one, though. Non-New Yorkers, J&R is just a local chain along the PC Richards & Sons vein of thing. (Which is also a local chain, and therefore not very helpful to you.)
I don't know anything about Dean Acheson, but when I clicked on the Times teaser of "Kissinger on the most vilified secretary of state," I really thought it was going to be his autobiography.
And here's a clip of Rockapella singing Carmen Sandiego, live in concert (which Sweaty says they did - twice). Awesome. This is easily the first concert experience Sweaty's ever had that I'm jealous of.
Did anyone notice the constant Mookie Wilson shots during the NLCS game last night? Was he asleep? Has Mookie had a stroke? What was the deal there?

Mets - Cardinals is looking to be a seven game thing, it seems like. A little friendly advice for both teams: what the hell are you thinking in sending your game one pitchers on three days rest?
Rockapella is awesome. They're the reason (or non-reason, I suppose) that Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? The Cartoon Series did not fare as well. That and the computer head looked way too much like Egon from Ghostbusters, the Cartoon Series.
I figured the cameras were on him a lot because he killed Scooter. I didn't see the little animated bastard all night long. Probably dumped the remains with what little sports television career Steve Lyons has left.
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 16 2006, 06:58 am
Yeah, Lyons, if you're going to pooch your television career, pooch it on a joke that at least makes *sense.* That wallet thing was nearly incomprehensible.
I am proud to admit that I saw two live recordings of the game show Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? At both, Rockapella performed live. I guess that makes me the most experienced Rockapella fan in the world. They're no Gwar, but they are unique.

I've known you for ten years, and this never came up? Wow.
15 -- Monday, October 16 2006, 09:23 am
I too can quote the entire "Clue" movie.... That flick never gets old.
Miyaa, there's no choice about the game 1 starters on 3 days rest - it's because of the rainout on Wednesday. Of course, apparently the weather is horrid in stl today, so we might be facing another rainout. I can't handle seven-game series as I'm reviewing a play on Thursday night.... GAH! Can you believe I might miss GAME SEVEN?
One more thing: I'm desperate for one of those Cardinal Red ipods...
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 16 2006, 09:28 am
Only 15 could look at an iPod raising funds to fight AIDS in Africa and think, "Jim Edmonds!"
Miyaa -- Monday, October 16 2006, 10:58 am
15 - No choice? Sure, Game Five is critical, but Game Six is essential. If you're the Mets, Glaven can start at home and save the series if they're down, clinch it if they're ahead. Besides, he's got a record of 2-5 on three days rest, and that happened during his glory days in Atlanta. Many feel that consistently starting pitchers on three days rest is why Atlanta only has the one World Series title.
And if you're the Cardinals, hell, Weaver isn't someone you want on four days rest let alone three. Maybe this is the game you just let your bullpen handle from start to finish. Maybe you throw out Jason Marquis here.
This is looking like it's going to be a 21-20 kind of game, weather permitting of course.
Finally there's something about the name "Mookie" that just is funny. I don't know what that is. Better than the four families who picked out ESPN for their child's name. Congratulation, your kid is now scarred for life.

That's quite a Roccamullet on the guy in the red shirt. And there's Lynne Thigpen representing The Warriors, of course.

The Baseball Furies dropped the ball! made an error!
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 16 2006, 02:53 pm
I remain astounded that I have roomed with two guys in my lifetime who have seen Roccapella in concert.

"Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going home to make love with my wife."
Sorry, it's the only Clue quote I know from memory.
Probably Tim Curry's best movie role. Better than even the campy Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 16 2006, 03:06 pm
What about his masterful turn as the snooty hotel manager in Home Alone 2?
crownover -- Monday, October 16 2006, 03:08 pm
jeremiah -- and you know the person who designed their DVD :) it's a crazy rockapella six degrees
Bullfrog -- Monday, October 16 2006, 03:12 pm
Are you fucking kidding me? Wow. I need a drink.
Deadspin linked to this, but it's easy to pass over - something called "Gelf" magazine explains Steve Lyons' wallet comment to me.
Miyaa, is this a trick? Because the actual quote is "sleep with my wife", not "make love to my wife"! You can't fool me!
Also: easy on the Weavs, dude. Jeff Weaver may hang out at Dave and Busters (a coworker saw him there the other night), but he pitched wonderfully on thursday night. Far better than our ace, chris carpenter, did on Friday...

In an attempt to save any reputation I may have for taste in music (which is doubtful), I would like to clarify that I am not a Rockapella fan. I merely witnessed them perform twice as part of a captivating game show. As a result, Bullfrog, you have only had one roommate that is in LOVE WITH Rockapella and it is Sweaty. Not all that surprising at all when you look at it that way.
