Man, first my domain goes screwy on me on Friday, and then the Irish go out and get absolutely friggin' manhandled on Saturday. I'm glad I don't have a dog, because it probably would've died on Sunday. As abysmal as that Irish game was - never before has one September loss so thoroughly crushed any realistic title hopes - at least the defense wasn't actually atrocious. Wooden had that one incredibly bad play where he decided not to cover anyone, least of all Mario Manningham, but aside from that, most of Michigan's offensive points came on incredibly short fields given to them by Irish incompetence. I'm not sure if Brady had a slight concussion by the end of the game, either - that fumble was just ridiculous. Bleh.
Usually, after a heartbreaking loss like that, I like to take a walk around the neighborhood. I guess the theory there is that I could always happen across a ne'er-do-well snatching an old woman's purse and have free license to go nuts on someone, although the preponderence of cops living in my neighborhood really reduce the odds of that, Revella Benson aside. This past Saturday, though, my parents were in town and I was basically chained to the apartment waiting for them to get back from an Upper West Side wedding. 2.0 was beginning to get worried when they took forever getting back, because my parents are what you could call "country folk," and the subway is not their native mode of transportation. Plus, the poor dears had to take three trains from our pad to the festivities. Thankfully, they made it, and I had to go through the pain of rehashing the game for Dad, since he missed it, what with a wedding and all. Whenever I have to tell my dad about the Sox or Irish losing, he asks me stuff like, "How did this happen?" in a tone not dissimilar to the one he used the time I crashed the car back in high school, as if I somehow planned the offensive scheme to include ill-timed turnovers. (This is dramatic hyperbole, actually - when I crashed the car back in high school, Mom said, lovingly, 'We're just happy you're OK,' and Dad said nothing. At all.) But he seemed to accept the defeat as soon as I told him about a fumbled kickoff return, which is really a crotch-punch as far as football momentum goes.
Only a few links today, since I'm leaving Friday's post up thanks to the technical difficulties. Every time I don't shave for a few days, I considering re-growing the Victory Beard I sported for all of two weeks three years ago. (The theory was that it was a good-luck beard, and this theory met its bloody end when Michigan beat the Irish 38-0. I fucking despise Michigan.) Anyway, this guy is growing a catch-bin-Laden beard, and, as you can imagine, it is quite bushy. No pun intended, since Bush has less than nothing to do with bin Laden.
Five Bucks to Friday house band the Hold Steady had a listening party for their new album last week, and I was thinking of going, except I figured that I'd probably just belly up to the bar and not talk to the band because what the hell would I say to the band, and I probably wouldn't even be able to get a good listen in on the album because it's a bar. That seems to be exactly what happened to Poptarts Suck Toasted guy, so I stand by my decision.
And, finally, Daily Dinosaur had one of those strips the other day that is so life-changingly awesome that I don't know why I don't just pack up and call this cartooning gig quits, because Daily Dinosaur is just so friggin' great.

Bullfrog -- Monday, September 18 2006, 01:53 pm Alright, sweet, just the thing to lift the spirits not forty-eight hours after getting the Guantanamo treatment from Michigan - the nation's number two corner just committed to the Irish. Temporary set-back, is all Michigan is. Go Irish!
Whitey -- Monday, September 18 2006, 02:53 pm Any chance the #2 corner can have eligibility start this Saturday night?
