Next week, a Tracer Bullet storyline!

Posted: 12:06 am, Friday, September 8th

Sorry I'm late, gang. Had to leave the laptop at the office last night to go out adventurin'. As a result, none of the links you're going to be bombarded with are poppin' fresh this morning. Sorry 'bout that. Frankly, I'm just hoping my laptop was actually here when I got in this morning (to explain the weird tenses, I'm writing this at four in the afternoon on Thursday, but addressing you all as if it's actually Friday morning). Wednesday night, somebody stole four laptops from the office (they were all out in the open - mine is being locked up, you can bet your bippy)(I don't know). Yep, four laptops - and my water bottle. My friggin' water bottle! What the hell is that nonsense? Joke's on them, I hadn't washed that thing in ages, but, still. Evidently they got the guy on tape that perpetrated this heinous act, but I don't know if that does anything other than prove a guy stole some laptops. New York's a big city, last I checked.

Speaking o' New York, the Morning News’ feature on the various parks of cities finally gets to New York. Frankly, it’s a little sappy. But I do love our parks.

Drink at Work recommends a guy I've never heard of for New York State Attorney General. As the other choices were Mark Green and Andrew Cuomo, this guy sounds great. Hard to go wrong if Atticus Finch is your hero. (I need to read that book again.) They also have your next few weeks planned out over at Drink at Work, too. And a new comic strip, too. OK, that's enough about them.

Apparently, Pret's presentation has been one-upped by an actual Automat. Open 25 hours? I am confused. But I will totally check this out next I’m stumbling incoherent through the East Village after Pommes Frites’ operating hours. Fuck knows when that will be, though.

Up next, kind of a public service announcement for any teenage dorks who may or may not be in the room (I have little idea of the make-up of my readership, and by the way, I’m not judging you, teenage dorks – I was a dorky teenager myself once). My friends the Ninja Consultants (they’re anime-sci-fi dorks, and wear it proudly) just threw together an installment of their podcast centered around Dork Dating Rituals and Advice. Anyway, it’s funny and charming, as the Ninja Consultants always are, and in case you’re stuck in your room where you’re supposed to be doing your earth science homework but are instead thinking of that cute girl in homeroom who you can’t bring yourself to talk to, why not listen to their podcast instead? At the very least, they reinforce the idea that there’s totally hope after high school, if not during, which I am a big proponent of. Also, check out their bios. I had no idea Noah was so accomplished. (Erin, I knew about.) As an added bonus, the intro/outro music this episode is Fat-bottomed Girls.

Man, somebody YouTubed Davie's botching of the Purdue game from my senior year. The shocking thing was that this was the second week in a row he mangled the last minute of a game. What a horse's ass. I need to link to something better to cleanse the palette. Here are some awesome Allen Pinkett runs against Penn State from the dark days of Faust.

Nice downfield blocking on that second one.

I think that brings me to - Go Irish! Beat Nittany Lions!

I don't know.

Hey, it worked last week (barely), so here's my GO IRISH post for this week. I (strangely) feel better about the Irish this week, than I did prior to the Tech game. I think it's because Weis has had a chance to digest how they played and will be making adjustments. Other than a win, my only other request is to get Munir Prince a few touches... just to see the "Whoosh". So as I said. Go Irish!

Bullfrog -- Friday, September 8 2006, 10:22 am

I think Prince will get some carries or a pass thrown his way this week. As weird as it sounds, considering that we only won by four, I do think some of the calls last week were setting up future opponents - putting Prince in motion and then just running up the middle or doing a screen to the other side, kind of lulling a lazy defender into thinking, "they never even look at him," and then hit him on a streak. Kind of like how Manny once said he'll take a shitty swing at a hittable pitch in the third inning so that he sees that one again later on in the game, and then he'll crush it.

Whitey -- Friday, September 8 2006, 11:49 am

Let's just hope we never have to hear the phrase, "That's just Munir being Munir" out of the coaches in South Bend.

And I agree, some of the play calling, whether dictated by the defense or not, did seem a little "vanilla".

Bullfrog -- Friday, September 8 2006, 12:37 pm

I wouldn't mind hearing it, if "being Munir" involved 200-yard rushing games. We could be like, "What can you say? It's just Munir being Munir."

Actually, from now on, when I do something really flaky (so in about three minutes, probably), I'm going to shrug and say, "Well, it's just me being Manny." I can't believe I haven't been doing this for years. I'm so excited, I'm going to e-mail Sweaty right now and share this.

Graphics from NBC pro should not carry over to Notre Dame under pain of death

Wonder which is bigger: Joe Paterno's glasses or Brady Quinn's playbook?

And no, I have not channeled Gregg Eastbrook's TMQ.

Miyaa -- Friday, September 8 2006, 12:52 pm

Sorry, that was meant to be a haiku.

Bullfrog -- Friday, September 8 2006, 01:03 pm

You won't find too many Domers defending the NBC productions, Miyaa. I only saw snippets of the game last night - including Porter's TD, which was awesome because one of my fantasy teams has Pittsburgh's D. What were the graphics like? Surely they can't be worse than Fox with those fucking dancing robots.

And that was a snazzy haiku.

Whitey -- Friday, September 8 2006, 01:48 pm

I agree with Miyaa, the graphics were far too busy. A couple of times it took me more than a scan or to to find down and distance... that's unacceptable.

ND coverage will be fine... just hopefully not too many shots of Tom Hammond. I don't know if they realized things were in HD, but I swear you could see the thick layer of makeup last year. He is a decent announcer though... of course after enduring Brent and Bood (Herbie did a good job of sticking up for the Irish) ANYTHING would be better.

You'd have to link to a bikini clad cheerleader to really channel TMQ.

Miyaa -- Friday, September 8 2006, 03:04 pm

The one thing about the NBC graphics is that it's so lifted from ABC's Monday Night Football from last year. (The producer and broadcasting crew are the same people.) Still, I thought we'd pretty well established that people to read graphics at the very top of the screen, or along the top left (prefered) or top right corner. But yeah, last night was a little too much metallica for my taste.

Speaking of brood, whatever ever happened to Trev Alberts?

Bullfrog -- Friday, September 8 2006, 03:16 pm

Trev's linguistic stylings can be seen regularly at Fire Mark May.

MJL -- Friday, September 8 2006, 04:26 pm

Shamefully, I am a full day late in recognizing the 9yr anniversary of the Great Chernobyl disaster that took place in the 1st floor chapel alley of Alumni Hall.

A moment of silence...

Bullfrog -- Friday, September 8 2006, 08:25 pm

Oh, man, Chernobyl. Let us mourn those lost that fateful day.

Bullfrog -- Saturday, September 9 2006, 11:22 pm

WHOOOOOOOOO. Combine us blowing the doors off Penn State earlier today and Texas forgetting they had a game tonight, I think we're good to be back up to number 2. Probably won't be - it'll probably be Auburn - but I have no doubt in this squad. Until tomorrow when I start thinking about Fichigan.

Miyaa -- Sunday, September 10 2006, 02:09 am

They used the same graphics from Thursday's Sunday Night NFL Football game with Saturday's game. Still doesn't look good. If Notre Dame gets past Michigan (a big if, I know), you wouldn't suppose there might be a good chance for a 1 vs. 2 match-up against USC?

Miyaa -- Sunday, September 10 2006, 02:20 am

Oh, yes. Trev Alberts has been hired starting this football season to comment on college games for CSTV. And if you're wondering what the hell is CSTV, well, they'd like to think of themselves as the original ESPNU. Now, it really CBSU, since they were bought out by CBS.

And the way I've read it, Alberts was hired like three weeks ago.
