Comic for Thursday, September 7th, 2006

This is directly inspired by the dude one of my friends was dating at our reunion a week and a half ago. Dude was a linebacker at Pitt back in the early 90s, so I asked him if he ever tried to tackle the Bus, since ND and Pitt played back then. He said it didn't turn out so well. Then he told me that Ty got a raw deal from the Irish. Then he had to listen to me ramble for half an hour as to why he was wrong. I was so miffed, I never even got around to asking what he thought of the Wannestache. Seriously, I was enraged. But I had to keep in mind - I, at best, am 70% couch potato, 30% distance runner. He is a former linebacker at a D-I school. But telling me that Brady's no pro prospect and Ty got a raw deal? That's pretty much asking for a thorough talking-to.
Some more ‘best of’ summer music lists… The one from the Morning News references the one at the Rawking Refuses to Stop, and also makes some really strange assertions, such as ‘Summertime’ being the only reason Will Smith “still has a career.” The only reason Will Smith still has a career is that people like easily digestible pop, for better or for much more often worse. Summertime is a great song, though, and way better than anything he’s written in his non-Fresh Prince career. A more indie list is up at the Rawking (a blog that’s been taken over by guest-bloggers this week - Five Bucks fav Rbally put up a Nirvana show from early in the Nevermind era, if you’re innerested). (I also find it funny that the dad from Undeclared has one of the songs of summer. Good times!)
Speaking of music, although really just barely, I’m sure most of you have heard of Paris Hilton’s CD being co-opted by Banksy by now. I had only seen the cover – the inside was even more brilliant. NSFW. (By the way, check out Banksy’s stuff if you have time – top-notch. This guy snuck into the MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum and hung his own artwork up. No one noticed.)
I find Harper’s weekly review to always be worth reading, even if I usually forget to read it. I really need to set up rss feeds for my daily surfing. Anyway, the review would kick even more ass if they’d link to newsources of the random crap they tick off. A kid in Indian weeps rock? Wha-a-a-a? Less weird than the dead twin inside the guy, but, rock? Really? Like, kidney stone rock, right? Not granite?
Psychedlic transparency. Do I have to say what this is?

2.0 -- Thursday, September 7 2006, 10:40 am I can tell you first hand that the Brooklyn Museum did not take kindly to that action. I was taking a course there at the time they *finally* discovered the painting. It took them a startling week I believe. They view Bansky's stunt as a literal act of terrorism.
It's too bad, right now they're having an exhibition on graffiti art and its scope is entirely retrospective. Here is an opportunity for them to adress Banksy's action on their own terms, and instead they've exhibited only works created in the 1980s. Save Swoon that is, who's fantastic, but hardly representitive of all today's trends in the movement.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, September 7 2006, 01:25 pm I agree with my lady (generally recommended) - Swoon's stuff is pretty cool. I've been meaning to run more links to street art sometime soon, since I find the stuff endlessly fascinating. Hopefully this little note-to-myself reminds me to do that.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, September 7 2006, 02:58 pm One of the attendees at the Deadspin party last night had a rockin' Sleater-Kinney t-shirt on. The girls weren't selling that one at Webster last month - the selection there was pretty damn slim, really.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, September 7 2006, 04:38 pm Huh. Blair's stepping down. Methinks the Coalition of the Willing just shrank one more.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, September 7 2006, 04:43 pm Crazy-thorough White House Briefing from Froomkin on Shitwit's speech from, when, last night, I guess? I've been kind of away from the news.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, September 7 2006, 04:57 pm I'm going to be updating a little later than usual tomorrow, crowd. Have to do it when I get to the office, rather than from the comfort of Five Bucks World Headquarters. See you at quarter of nine or so.
Wood -- Friday, September 8 2006, 07:19 am Its always disheartening when i get into the office before the daily five bucks has been posted
