Short one today, folks, because my day was largely spent in crazy amounts of pain. Tree was in town this past weekend and we rocked to a power that I am evidently unsuited for. If I called any of you at four in the morning Saturday night, I apologize.
Why was Tree in town, you ask? I suppose the real reason was for his lawyerin' work, but I like to think the true deciding factor was Snakes on a Plane. The crowd at the AMC Empire in Times Square did not disappoint us Friday evening. It was maybe sixty percent irony seekers and forty percent people actually interested in seeing Snakes on a Plane, which was way off the distribution when we saw Gigli there opening night (two people were irony seekers that evening), but, man, what an experience. If you can see Snakes on a Plane with a rowdy crowd, I guarantee you will get your money's worth out of it. There's not a single goddamn thread of logic in the entire film.
Anyway, a few links and then I need to go to bed.
I kind of liked this McSweeney's from the other day - I would like it if someone's kid actually did say stuff like this, because it makes for a more interesting story than I usually get to hear about people's kids.
Radiohead has a song off their first album with a line about how, in heaven, everyone can play guitar. As I’m very slowly learning how to play the guitar, that sounds nice. But I think I’ll eventually get the hang of it, so I don’t need heaven to accomplish it. You know what I think heaven is like? I think in heaven, everyone can run like Rocket Ismail. Some of the quality is a little dicey, but, God, that guy. He’s like a deer. I can’t believe Ty Detmer has his Heisman. (The squib return against what looks to be Penn State is my favorite.) (The final moment – the phantom clip – is by far my least favorite.)
OK, you know what? I just crashed. Bleh. I'll see if I can muster a little more in the morning, if not, well, there's always Tuesday.
Postscript - there will in fact have to be tomorrow.

Well the sox are done for the season. Better luck next year...
Bullfrog -- Monday, August 21 2006, 09:26 am
I have no idea what these "sox" you speak of are. If you're having trouble with your socks, I suggest Tevas or Birkenstocks.
I'm going to go whimper in the corner now.

Mmm...Tevas.
Althrough Birkenstocks are pretty good too. Of course, these days, if I need good black socks, I get them in bulk at Costco.

Chacos! Much more comfortable/durable than Tevas.

Tevas? This is no longer 1996. You gotta hook up the black Teva flip-flops instead. Those things are mo comfortable.

So, I'm back in Stamford, but this time I decided to skip the wonder that is Westchester County Airport and fly into LGA. As we enter our final descent, I look out the window and idly notice we're flying north along what I assume is a river. All of a sudden, I see this bronze wench standing on a pedestal on her own island, glinting in the sun. Maybe the glinting thing was my imagination, but it was a very cool image nonetheless. We fly up the East River and I get a 10 minute view of lower Manhattan until we hang a right just as Central Park is coming into view, then a left as we pass over Shea and those flying-saucers towers from the end of MiB 1. A pretty cool end to a way-too-early flight and a nice way to start the week.
One question though...what are the two other stadia right next to Shea?
Bullfrog -- Monday, August 21 2006, 01:16 pm
That's where they hold the US Open in Tennis, unless I'm mistaken.
See, flip-flops have never been my bag because I don't like having the little thong bit in between my toes. Of course, it's been about a decade or so since I've tried this, so maybe I could handle it now.
The greatest game of basketball I've ever played in my life took place while I was wearing Tevas and jeans. The guy I put up 10 on couldn't believe it.

Tevas and Jeans...don't give all your style tips away in one post honey!
Bullfrog -- Monday, August 21 2006, 02:01 pm
The holes in this particular pair of jeans were amazing to behold. My mother threw them out while I was in Denver. I was so unhappy.
I always thought it was strange that the Times Union had an in-house editorial cartoonist. The guy was pretty interesting when I met him back in the day. Thanks for pointing that site to me, E.

After all that, to lose the fifth game 2-1 on a wild pitch/pass ball. Ugh. I hate you, baseball.
