Comic for Monday, August 7th, 2006

It looks like the hairdresser is talking to her in the third panel, I just noticed.

Posted: 7:40 am, Monday, August 7th

Man, I go watch some guy get married, and Michael Kay loses his friggin' mind. It couldn't happen to a toadier guy.

So! Reginald Ho got married on Friday, and Sweaty, RAW and my buddy Pentzien were all there to make sure nothing went too out of control. Reggie's take on the day leading up to the big event: "I don't know how anyone gets married. This is nerve wracking." But he came through like a champ and smiled more than anyone's ever seen. Reggie's lady (Mrs. Ho doesn't sound, well, good) looked lovely, and the happy couple are off to Hawaii tomorrow. Congrats and happiness to them.

As for me, I give myself an A- as a best man. I nailed my speech, but there was this one hiccup in which my car broke down on the way to the church. (Actually, it was on the way to his parents' house for a sammich before going to the church, but that sounded less dramatic.) Yeah, a hose burst and the car overheated instantly. Thankfully, we were right at the top of a hill instead of in the middle of the hill, and we got it into a parking lot where hopefully my stupid auto club will eventually fetch it and take it to a shop. Not entirely what I needed, but if it is in fact true that 100% of any endeavor I undertake cannot work out perfectly, at least it was a part of the endeavor that didn't fuck up Reggie's big day.

So now we're down to one wedding left in 2006, just in time for football season. Whew! Not counting, of course, Mena's upcoming nupitals. Thanks to CK for helping me understand the concept of an updo and that it would, in fact, be innappropriate for the girls to be getting shampooed in today's strip.

Speaking of football! Yesterday was the Irish media day, so that's your daily Irish. We have the Robot Genius himself, your Heisman favorite and mine, and the deceptively fast Eastern European athlete. Good times all around!

After Sweats and RAW left yesterday, I found myself with little energy and the first DVD of Freaks and Geeks sitting on my desk. So I have finally begun to watch a show that people have been telling me for about eight years that I would love. And they're right. I can't believe crap like Two and a Half Men is a top ten show and Apatow couldn't get Freaks and Geeks *or* Undeclared picked up for a full 23 episode season. That is mind boggling to me. Honestly, my mind, she is boggled. I'm only three episodes into Freaks and Geeks and am already hooked. I've never seen high school written so well.

Anyway. I don't have a ton of energy handy now, so I guess I'll be going. I'll leave you with this, which RAW used to completely ruin my life yesterday. Oh, and today's disaster isn't actually that bad - just I can't pass up a dude with a bad teen 'stache, a bandana, and a rifle in his main picture. Oh, and congrats to E, who is startin' a new job today.

Freaks and Geeks = excellent show. Great cast too, those people are everywhere now.

Kay also 'buried' the Sox on Friday, saying they were done. Of course, they didn't need to go out and play as if he were correct this weekend. Sigh.

Zero

oh, and, 'Savory entropy discharges neon.' or whatever

Princess Di -- Monday, August 7 2006, 10:48 am

Happy Monday - one and all! Hope everyone's weekend was fab - mine was kinda like this...

;)

Fun in the sun!

Miyaa -- Monday, August 7 2006, 11:51 am

Is it just me, or does Lissa's grandfather looks like Colonel Sanders? And why do I have this craving for deep fried chicken?

And Freaks and Geeks proves what I've always maintained: the American consumer doesn't want witty, it wants stupidity.

Bullfrog -- Monday, August 7 2006, 12:03 pm

Yeah, that's the one I've thought, more than the Pringles guy people were mentioning last week. I was going for old Irish-American guy, I got friggin' Col. Sanders. Oh well.

I don't have sound at work, Di, but it appears that your weekend heavily involved J. Crew.

Thanks for the well wishes. First day is good so far. Only SNAFU - they seem to have successfully blocked my gmail access. Anyone know a good way around this? I can get my personal google page and my google calender (which shows my inbox). Grrr.

MJL -- Monday, August 7 2006, 01:53 pm

No useful advice for E here. :-( I do hope jobby job continues to go well.

We're all thinking it, so It's probably of little worth to go on record, but oh well: I predict Five Bucks gets a little saucy in the next few strips. In an off-camera classy sort of way, of course. Granted, I have yet to surf out to the fan-site msg boards (fivebuck.net, etc) in search of insider speculation.

If you're ever at Midway with some time to kill and an appetite for destruction, I VERY much suggest you hop in a cab and make your way here: http://www.szalasrestaurant.com. That's right, food from the Polish highlands. Most of which is served with bacon. Even the pork chops. And dumplings. I won't be eating again until next Sunday, I promise.

RAW -- Monday, August 7 2006, 02:36 pm

It sounds like your IT department is blocking access to mail.google.com but not www.google.com. I found this discussion which has a few suggestions for getting around it.

I love Notre Dame, and contrary to this blog - I also love the Yankees!!! So - finding an article that equates the two makes me happy!

The newest spam-bot?

DFW -- Monday, August 7 2006, 11:06 pm

Heh, it's not that great of a spam-bot. it probably has (lesse, Proper Name, another name, Noun, Verb, Adjective, another adjective, so...) four word lists, that puts the words in a specific pattern (two from the name list for the "your name" box; noun-verb-adjective-noun pattern repeated 11 times.) and then posts it. probably banged together a a half an hour or so, more for the word-list. 'course, this is only a guess. The gibberish is kinda cute. Hmm... I wonder if there would be a way to filter a post with two distinct words to "Jabberwocky" or some-such, and have it overwrite it's old post.
