Comic for Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

Posted: 7:28 am, Tuesday, August 1st
My last update on my trip up home, unless I remember something later on: There are two big stories in the Capital Region these days, and one is this Porco murder trial. From what my dad told me, this guy was some sort of DA or something (I'm way off on that guess, but I don't really care) who, along with his wife, was attacked in his sleep and bludgeoned about thirty times. He eventually died, although none of the individual wounds were fatal, and the wife survived. So the main suspect is the son, who supposedly drove from RIT to do this deed, because nothing good comes from Rochester. (It's a joke, honey.) Anyway, so, yeah, all that's pretty interesting. The other thing, and I didn't read any of this, but then there's also this investigation called "Xctasy: A Child's Tears." It's a child-abuse case of some sort. I'm just going to go right ahead and say if anyone registers their child's name as Xctasy, Child Protective Services should really just get involved immediately.
Holy fuck, is Big Papi something else entirely.
I'm starting the Daily Irish a day early, because I'm so jazzed from Papi just jacking the shit out of the ball. Here's Sunday Morning Quarterback's take on the upcoming season, and then here's some of one of the Games of the Century that the Irish played in last century, this one against Michigan State in 1966. This dude, tjnd88, is putting up some absolutely vintage stuff on YouTube. Oh, speaking of Michigan State, their old coach is a not a total douche, since he stood up Shitwit for dinner. It would've been a lot better if his reason had been something like, "Because the man is Goddamn sickening," but I'll take what I can get.
Some good stuff from the Comics Curmudgeon - the class rage one kills me. As with most things, it's funny because it's true, but, God, if it weren't, huh?
1up did a thing on bad video game ads. I remember Shaq-Fu, but Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City? Really? Evidently, it did exist.
Thank the stars, MySpace is being slow or something. So here's the new Beck video instead.
I'm out. Glory be to Papi, congrats to one half of Keep Your Sox On, and I'll see you tomorry.

2.0 -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 08:17 am Since I've been temping in the corporate sector I've overheard much talk surrounding the recent slump in our economy. Well...seems the suits don't lie:

MNP -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 08:49 am Just for clairty....long-term average growth is 3%. the Q1 5.6% GDP was abnormally high because of a sluggish Q4 2005 after the hurricanes. 2.5% growth is considered an even, sustainable growth rate, not recessionary. Now, I'm not saying that a recession is impossible, but remember that people say reactionary things to be able to get their names into the paper (or online). So all you will read are extremist views. take it with a grain (or a 1000 grains) of salt.
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 09:17 am Or, as I liked to tell Sweaty whenever he was bitching about his econ homework, "If more people want apples, the price of apples goes up."
ad -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 10:19 am Another interesting look at the economy, and a vote for recession, from DailyKos: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/8/1/75612/00905
This blogger, bonddad, is well worth following for economic information. (And he's a tax lawyer in Houston, so he's well-situated to know what is going on.)
My .02 on the housing market is that it has needed to readjust for awhile now, so this decrease in new home sales should not be unexpected. Also, rising interest rates are finally catching up to the mortgage market and it is harder, and much riskier, to get 'creative' mortgages to finance that $500,000 house with six bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. (Or the $250,000, studio condo in downtown Chicago.)
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 11:00 am I hate to take away from this heady discussion of economics, but Derek Jeter has an odor.

Secretary -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 03:41 pm I would just like to say how much I enjoy the 6 panel strips. I love getting longer comics!
Reggie Ho -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 03:50 pm You have an odor too.
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 03:52 pm Don't get too used to it, it's basically a situational thing. I'm not going to be steering away from it, but I apparently do a lot of my thinking in four exchanges rather than six. I've been doing a lot of editing of excess strips for this storyline - actually going all out and scrapping a few that could easily take up a day here and there (such as Ron and Lissa getting on the train to go to the wedding, wherever on Long Island they may be) - in order to keep it moving along.
That said, I have no idea what you'll be seeing in this space on Monday yet, because I haven't written next weeks' strips yet. Horrors!
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, August 1 2006, 03:55 pm Yes, but mine is not of chilled grapefruit, clean oak moss (who the hell cleans their moss?), and spice. It's more bacon, 24-7.
