Comic for Monday, June 26th, 2006

Whoooo-ha, how's everyone doing? We're having a short one today because 2.0 and I busy walking around Brooklyn most of yesterday because it finally stopped raining and we needed to get out of the house. After Friday evening's outing at the GYC, most of the weekend was a washout - we were going to hit the Mermaid Parade on Saturday, but, alas, alack. So we lazied around instead. I finally saw some World Cup matches - Germany v. Argentina oughtta be pretty good, right? Bummer about the Sox getting rained out on my birthday, but at least the Goat Fuckers only split their double header (plus, they got shut out by some dude named 'Anibel,' which can't help the ego). (2.0 tells me this is not pronounced Annabelle, but Aneebuhlay... less embarrassing.)
When I drew this, 2.0 walked by and said, "I think Lissa has a drinking problem." Which made me think for as often as you see the characters with a drink in their hand, they're almost never drunk. So you're always either seeing their first drink, or they're freaking unstoppable. Either way, uh, I have no point. Oh, and this would've been a good strip to run last week when all the subject lines were crazy band names, but what can you do?
2.0 actually just left Slate because she hates the new design so much. Wow.
God bless YouTube - I've seriously been trying to find a video clip of Clive Clemmons' Inappropriate Response Channel for seven years. My old roommate Sweaty liked to talk about his "cock n' balls" in mixed company a lot in collitch, so we'd throw a penalty flag and yell "inappropriate!" at him, even though RAW and I were the only ones who had seen the sketch. By the way, the temptation for me to misspell inappropriate is overwhelming.
Things to do! There's a Drink at Work show at the Ace of Clubs tonight, and if the rain holds, To Have and Have Not is at Bryant. An Inconvenient Truth continues to do well, and Al Gore has a new terrifying message for you.
Finally - and, I know, it's brief - today's MySpace nightmare was chosen because of its proximity to my birthday. Check out the ridiculous countdown this person has to their next birthday. A solid eleven and a half months away. Yikes. Oh, wait... I'm looking at it right now. It looks like she broke up with her boyfriend or something over the weekend and took her birthday countdown down. Well. Shoot. I'm still going with it, because I'm typing this at seven thirty in the morning, and that's too Goddamn early to subject myself to MySpace.

2.0 -- Monday, June 26 2006, 07:58 am Actually, when I told you that I thought it was spelled
differently...now I am not so sure.
skt -- Monday, June 26 2006, 08:01 am your characters may have a drinking problem but i personally
like to see someone start their monday morning with a
martini.
or at least i assume it is monday morning in
fivebucksland - is jen drinking coffee?
Bullfrog -- Monday, June 26 2006, 09:08 am Jen is drinking coffee - I have no idea what day it is
there. Since it would be hilarious if it's Monday morning,
let's go with that.
The Goat Fuckers only had 6,809 on hand for last night's
game? WOW. I hope somebody wrote down Kay or the always
loathsome Sterling's impressions on that. I'm trying to
imagine anything short of a Godzilla attack causing that
small of a crowd at Fenway.
Bullfrog -- Monday, June 26 2006, 09:11 am Even better, from the Daily News:
"Perhaps comforted by a crowd that had dwindled to a
familiar size from the 53,615 in the opener, the Marlins
used their speed to manufacture runs."
So, Yankees fans, it's *your* fault for not showing up.
Way to let the team down.
Bullfrog -- Monday, June 26 2006, 09:22 am Oh, man, the Slate redesign that 2.0 shrieked at first thing
in the morning was perpetrated by Stacked! Now *I* have to
check it out.

MNP -- Monday, June 26 2006, 09:27 am How cool is it that Warren Buffet is giving away $38 billion
of his $44 billion fortune? I read an article once where he
said his kids didn't need that much money, he'd make sure
that they had plenty to live on, but he wasn't going to let
them run amok, he was going to make sure his money was used
for good.
Also, check it out: all of Buffet's kids run their own
charitable foundations.

MJL -- Monday, June 26 2006, 10:48 am Off topic (as if that ever mattered): I'm looking for a
decent photo of Bill Laimbeer in a Notre Dame uniform. GIS
is letting me down. Plus, I'm supposed to get to work soon.
MJL -- Monday, June 26 2006, 12:57 pm Wow. That nicely killed any chatter. I have a knack.
Bullfrog -- Monday, June 26 2006, 01:14 pm Sorry, Mikey. I was looking for one, but no dice.. Checking
out eBay and everything.
Italy won on what the interweb is calling some shady
officiating, and now the Sox are knuckling under for the
sweep against the Phils. (That was hilarious, because, you
see, Wake is on the mound.)
2.0 -- Monday, June 26 2006, 01:27 pm I feel bad, doesn't the Stacked guy read this site? Well,
I'm sure I'll get used to it...
...
RAW -- Monday, June 26 2006, 01:48 pm Cool...blog spam. Looks like it originated from Korea.
Bullfrog -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:01 pm And that's the end of *that* chapter.
No worries, babe, I think he's sleeping all day today.
Pat -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:17 pm "2.0 actually just left Slate because she hates the new
design so much. Wow."
What? Nooooooooooo!
In all seriousness, what's so bad about it?
Pat -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:18 pm P.S. I wasn't involved in the design process; that all
happened before I came on board. I just coded the thing.
Pat -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:20 pm Also I like the article pages a lot. The TOC has some
flaws, but the articles I think are a vast improvement.
Pat -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:21 pm I'm going to write a fourth post just because I'm loopy
after leaving work at 6 a.m. this morning, then coming back
into the office at 11 after being woken up twice in the
interim by site-issue phone calls.
Bullfrog -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:31 pm She'll have to explain - I was typing furiously to get the
post up before I took off for the day. I think she was just
jarred by the difference.
And I'm sure you'll be psyched to learn this, but if you
click on the Picture of the Day, the Elvis photo? The nav
bar on the left is the old one, as is the logo.
I can't believe they made you come in at eleven. Dear
God.
Pat -- Monday, June 26 2006, 02:41 pm Yeah, Today's Pictures, Today's Cartoons, Doonesbury and
meaningoflife.tv are actually external sites that use our
shell template. We're having some issues with all of them.
2.0 -- Monday, June 26 2006, 04:05 pm Hi Pat. It's true, it really was a knee jerk reaction. I
read Slate before my morning cup of coffee, and change is a
very bad thing when it comes before my morning cup of
coffee. I also have to admit I don't particularly like the
font choice for the logo. I *am* partial to serifs
though...could be just a general prejudice I have.
And that's a whole lot of maroon isn't it?
But! I do like the way the navigation bar on the left
works! Really, I do.
crownover -- Monday, June 26 2006, 04:08 pm aaron spelling died?!?!
