Comic for Friday, June 2nd, 2006

Posted: 12:06 am, Friday, June 2nd
Boy, this one was a blast to draw. I know I more or less telegraphed the ending yesterday, but I don't really care. I so rarely get to draw the gang full-body that I was worried about Lissa coming out super deformed, but I think I pulled it off OK. I guess you guys will be the judges.
I think I'm going to go to this thing tomorrow - it's the book release party for some dude who wrote a hair-metal noir novel. It's being put on (or co-put on, I guess) by Void magazine, which a buddy of Crownover's runs, and is at Galapagos in Williamsburg, which is a pretty cool venue now that I've gotten over by Williamsburg aversion. We went there for 15's birthday party a while back - it's got this massive reflecting pool in front that is the sort of space-use rarely seen in places in the city that aren't phenomenally expensive. And, I mean, hair-metal noir? Sweet.
I'm assuming I am shockingly unhip for having to find this place through the Morning News, but, damn, check out elbo.ws. ad, don't tell your boyfriend - this is just breaking copyright laws left and right. Type in an artist and lookit all the downloads available. This will be sure to prevent a repeat of the Sufjan Stevens disaster of 2005. It seems to skew heavily toward indie stuff, but I found a bunch of NoFX and Pumpkins stuff, and some hip-hop.
We have an absolutel rarity for the MySpace disaster today - I actually like this one. Don't get me wrong - thanks to some moran being completely unable to size a .jpeg or a .gif or something, it's nearly impossible to navigate. But the image in the background is actually pretty cool. In fact, if you just go straight to the link and don't scroll around, you will not be harmed in the slightest.
Anyway, that's really all I've got today. I had a long day at the office yesterday and didn't get to take lunch, let alone doodle out the Inconvenient Five and Dime I had planned.. Since I had it planned, I guess look for it on Monday. I'll get to it, I promise. (And I know, I know, I promise you guys lots of things - I have to update the cast page and the alternative archive, I haven't forgotten.) So, everybody go have a good weekend and play some softball in the park like Ron and Lissa. And don't take no guff from Jimbos, either.

MNP -- Friday, June 2 2006, 09:02 am I like "Zwip" :)
although I'm not sure about Lissa's shoes. very
matchy-matchy.
Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 09:03 am Man, I love me some ceviche. The problem with it is that in
order not to die, you have to marinate the fish in citrus
for about six hours, which, for me, generally entails
getting up at six to cut up a pound of fish and a dozen
lemons and limes. A lovely smell first thing in the morning.
Thankfully, the always awesome Elise put up a shrimp ceviche
recipe which takes a fraction of the time. I am very excited
about this, since ceviche and white wine really make those
steamy New York summer nights much more tolerable.

Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 09:04 am Lissa would *totally* coordinate her work-out outfit. She's
a good deal fancier than the others.
And a general site update, I did most of the updating for
the annotated archive last night after I typed today's post
- it's not live yet, but I'm inching toward fulfilling one
of my sitemasterly duties.
Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 10:06 am Rolling Stone - for all its tendencies to drive me and Grafe
up the wall - does put out some decent political journalism
still from time to time. Up this week is an epicly long
article from RFK Jr. (who I saw speak at ND back during my
freshman year) about the theft of the 2004 election, which
for some reason got about two stories written about it in
the mainstream news media. There was an epicly depressing
article in Harper's about this maybe back in October, but
Harper's puts very little of its magazine content online, so
I never got to link to more than an excerpt. Complete
honesty, I haven't actually read this yet because it, also,
seems to be pretty damned long, but, here we go:

Also, and this is just shocking, but Shitwit's gonna come
out of his hate-closet and back a gay-marriage amendment.
(The amendment would ban gay marriage, not, you know, force
dudes to marry each other. Although can you imagine the
hilarity if a word got left out of the official bill and
that's what actually got passed? Dibs on Hasselhoff!)

2.0's mom -- Friday, June 2 2006, 10:33 am I just half-heard on Air America that Laura Bush has moved
into the Mayflower Hotel in Washington because of an affair
between *the Presient* and Condi Rice.
Has anyone else heard this? Was it a joke?
ad -- Friday, June 2 2006, 10:45 am elbo.ws is pretty impressive... and so very illegal... but
I'm not telling, promise. Random bit of info--.ws is Samoa.
Ondy -- Friday, June 2 2006, 10:48 am TOK!
That 6th panel has me laughing pretty damn hard,
Bullfrog. Good work.
Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 11:02 am Nice research on the .ws. And, actually, is elbo.ws illegal?
It's more like all those blogs are illegal, right, and
elbo.ws is skirting it by just pointing it out?
Um, I didn't see anything on Wonkette, but I'll keep you
posted, 2.0's mom. I wouldn't be surprised, but early
returns are it's a joke.
What is not a joke is that today is National Doughnut
Day. America - fuck yeah!

Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 12:21 pm The closest I've come to the Laura-Mayflower thing is this -
it's from a comics blog, and the report comes from "The
Globe," so I'm pretty sure we're operating in the land of
make-believe here.

Sweaty -- Friday, June 2 2006, 01:54 pm Great job with the comic. I can't wait to see you - I mean
Ron - hit. In the third panel, however, I think that
Lissa's left leg would be out in front of her body since
she's following through and that her right foot would be on
the rubber or just falling off at that point.
Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 01:57 pm Maybe, but I'm not totally sure.. I haven't seen fast pitch
softball in a while, so I mimed the movements out and
consistently came up with a point in my delivery where my
toe dug into the mound. Granted, my delivery is probably
100% incorrect, but it's what I had to go with. Everything
Google images gave me on softball pitching were frontal shot
with the girl either starting her wind up or having just
delivered the ball. I think you land differently in softball
than baseball.
Or, you know, I'm wrong. In which case, remember: I'm a
moron.

ad -- Friday, June 2 2006, 02:19 pm Sorry 'bout the double-post... Firefox hiccup.
Princess Di -- Friday, June 2 2006, 04:05 pm For all of you fellow people who are still at work at 4pm on
a Friday, after a poop-like week, ready to rub some lemon
juice and salt in a papercut....
but enough about me!!!
All I could think about when I watched this was 'How
Bizare,' then of course I had the song stuck in my head.
Warning - you need sound, and it is not very PC...

Bullfrog -- Friday, June 2 2006, 07:17 pm Holy shit, speaking of needing sound - props to Wonkette and
the completely indispensable Crooks and Liars for this one.
It's one of those moran therapists that thinks homosexuality
is an affliction to be treated and, well.. No words can do
this justice.
