Comic for Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Posted: 12:16 am, Tuesday, May 30th
Hey-o, squad. Hope everyone had a rockin' Memorial Day weekend and threw a mental thanks to a vet at the very least. Back in the day, I marched in my high school band and for eight straight years had to march in the annual town Memorial Day parade in some ungodly hideous uniform that was twenty-plus years old. A decade removed from this horrible tradition, I actually kind of miss it (in theory). Some one of these years, I think I'm going to wind up dragging poor ol' 2.0 up to my hilltop hometown and watch the 4-H float go by while chewing a blade of grass or something.
So, anyway, I actually had a very active and not extremely restful weekend, and have a ton to tell you about. Unfortunately, it's almost midnight as I'm typing this and we've been out rejoicing in the glorious actually summer-ish weather, and I'm not in much condition to share everything with you. Know that it's going to be a busy week around the site, though.
Alright, so you may ask, what do I have for you to thank you for stopping by *today* and to entice you to come by the rest of the week? Well, I'm pretty sure there's going to be a Five and Dime each of the next three days, because 2.0 and I saw the Al Gore flick on Friday and it's awesome (go to it). Two free summer events of note; the Hold Steady, America's most rocking bar band, are playing a free show in late July at Castle Clinton down on the Battery, and this coming Monday, Drink at Work managed to yet again plan a comedy show the night of my softball game. The Gowanus Yacht Club is open and rocking hard, I am happy to announce. If you ever find a psychedlic desktop wallpaper of the Beatles, you'd damn well better make it your MySpace background, a-duh. And as I go, check out this picture I managed to get of the final out at the Sox game (Schill's 200th) 2.0, Sweats and I went to on Saturday night.
Alright, I'll be back with some much tomorrow, you'll be all like, 'Bullfrog, shut up.' Honest.

Grafe -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 08:32 am what's going on in panel 4?
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 08:46 am Oh, shoot, that didn't come out well? Pete's chasing Ron
down the street for the B-52s crack. Darn, I didn't even
think that was too big of a nonsequitor even.
Grafe -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 08:54 am Oh, for some reason, i though pete was saying that. somehow
i missed the exclamation point and the buble trail. what
did i tell you about letting me post on mondays? err. .
.tuesdays. whatever.
MJL -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 10:20 am The Promo West arena in Columbus, OH sells 32 oz brews. The
cups/buckets in which they are served definitely belong in a
deli. "I'll take 3 lbs of the potato salad, please."
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 10:24 am How did you dig the show?
Licia -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 11:34 am ??? I still don't get it. What does rock lobster have to do
with the B-52s?
2.0 -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 11:39 am See inconvenient truth, it's really well done.
That means you Mom!
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 11:41 am Well, it's the name of a B-52s song, for starters, but it's
also kind of a slip Pete made in proclaiming something's
awesomeness in the past.

You'd think I would've learned from the confusion I
caused some people the first time I used this joke. Well,
that's just not the Five Bucks way. This amuses *me,* God
dammit, and I'll be going back to the well if I feel like
it!
MJL -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 12:01 pm I can't comment too much because I don't Flogging Molly's
music that well, but they certainly seemed to be giving it a
good treatment, i.e. they weren't just going through the
motions. You don't see the penny whistle and the accordian
everyday, so that was cool. They made a few Irish Catholic
cracks about how weird it was to be doing a show on a
Sunday.
The two opening bands made my ears bleed, in a bad way.
I'm sure it wasn't OzFest caliber, but relative to my
limited experience there was quite a bit of bouncing in the
pit. Good fun there, and no major bruises. Helps to go to
the show w/ 3 guys that are 250+. Also, I shot the breeze
for 2 minutes w/ a guy wearing a kilt and "the shirt" circa
1997. I counted about 5 mohawks. All-ages show, though, so
I felt pretty old.
Of interest (my own, at least), Umphrey's McGee, Ani
Difranco, and O.A.R. are on the near term docket for
www.promowestlive.com. I don't know if McGee is actually
any good, but I have yet to get to a show of theirs, so it's
on my list.
skt -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 12:08 pm frogger,
i totally got the whole b-52s rock lobster crack.
and i read it at 4 this am.
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 12:29 pm Thanks, Skitters.
I saw Umphrey's McGee a few years back at the Bowery
Ballroom, which is hilarious, since I couldn't be bothered
to see them play Senior Bar when they were still a campus
band.
Not really my thing, but they seemed to be able to play
their instruments.
Secretary -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 12:47 pm Wow. I just checked out MySpace for the first time (it was
blocked on my old work computer). Craziness. I did a
search for people I went to college with, and some scary
faces popped up. That's a dangerous site. Yet strangely
intriguing.
Zero -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 02:14 pm I got the joke, which was bad because I was holding the
just-dozed-off-in-my-lap-at-3:30am-up-since-1:30am baby in
my lap, and when I snorted she woke up. So yeah, it's your
fault.
Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 30 2006, 06:37 pm "Five Bucks to Friday - Where we wake up your infant as soon
as you get her to sleep." Yeah, I may not use that one in
promo pieces, Zero.
