Comic for Friday, May 26th, 2006

Pete is modeling The Shirt '06, and Ron is resplendent in an old bootleg BC game shirt.

Posted: 7:16 am, Friday, May 26th

Pete's reading the Anthropologie catalog, which I subscribe to for ideas for the girls' clothing from time to time. I actually really like their clothing and, despite the oppressive cost, steer 2.0 there from time to time to look around stuff. Really, it's all in the name of research. Honest. Please believe me. Anyway, when I was flipping through the summer issue, I found that girl in the second panel who more or less looked exactly like what I've always kind of thought Lissa would look like were she a real girl (a Pinocchi-ette?). Since I don't want Lissa to be a model, and I also don't *actually* want real-life equivalents to the main four characters, hey, thankfully I gave Lissa a sibling back around the New Year. Good times. By the way, has anyone noticed I've been drawing the characters kind of blockier lately? And I've been doing eyes a little differently? Anyone? Bueller? Also, I updated the cast photos on the cast page. I need to update the text/links there, too, since that's supposed to be a quick way for people to catch up on everything, but haven't gotten to it yet. Maybe this weekend.

Check out this little bit of sabremetrics about the best fielding independent pitching stats since 1920. It's a bunch of impossible math to find out how good a pitcher is despite how good/bad the fielding behind him may be. Really, the only reason I'm linking to it at all is because, Goddamn, look at that 1999 season by Pedro "The Right Arm of God" Martinez. I still remember sitting in Sweaty's room on a Friday night our senior year listening to Petey K seventeen Goat Fuckers. MLB.com only let you listen to the home broadcasts then, so we had to listen to the always objectionable John Sterling and his then-partner the abominable Michael Kay. Even *they* were impressed by Pedro's performance. Just mowing mofos down. What a game. What - a - game.

Awesome article on cell phone etiquette from the Morning News. I can't tell you how irritating I find dudes talking on their fucking cell phones through that walkie-talkie function. I really fantasize about slapping the phone out of their hands. A more reasonable solution would be this.

The peerless Comics Curmudgeon linked to Scott "Dilbert" Adams' blog yesterday, where Adams talks about the strips that he has either self-censored or been censored on. My favorite is the one on the bottom, where somehow the solution was to have a cop firing bullets out of his... donut.

So, I know what you Domers out there are saying. You're saying, "How will we ever live down those douchebag MBA students being stupid enough to tape their crazy lame tailgate party and besmirching the good name of Our Lady's university by letting the freaking thing hit the internet?" I say unto you, rejoice, for an unemployed dude in a tOSU sweatshirt was caught jacking off in a library, and *this* has hit the internet. Oh, man, I'm so psyched for this. (sounds, more or less safe for work)

Today's MySpace nightmare is actually not bad at all (you could say I'm cheating with my long weekend by giving myself another day off from wading through that shitstorm). In fact, it's an old friend.

Alright, I'm sure I'll be around some today. 2.0 and I are hoping to score tickets to the Al Gore flick tonight and then it's on to root-root-root for Red Sox, if they don't win it's a shame. Have a happy Memorial Day, squad. If you're in a town with a parade, go see the parade. That's good wholesome fun.

MNP -- Friday, May 26 2006, 07:33 am

Darn, I think I missed the NASCAR parade. Would listening to Sting give a live, free concert downtown with a bunch of NASCAR rednecks who have mullets count as good, wholesome fun?

2.0 -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:07 am

Ok, so we know why *you* subscribe to the Anthropologie catalog...why does Ron?

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:07 am

As 2.0 knows, the allure of Sting and/or the Police has eluded me my entire life. I just don't get it.

Secretary -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:23 am

I missed MC Hammer's performance in Charlotte last night....damn! It could have been the high point of my life.

On the other hand, the high point of my life COULD be that today is my last day working at the hell hole that's been sending me a paycheck for the past 10 months. Woo!

Secretary -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:29 am

Did anyone see this? Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan??? http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/P/PEOPLE_ CATE_BLANCHETT?SITE=VTBAR&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

E -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:35 am

Happy 1st anniversary to MNP & Mr. MNP. Such a great wedding!

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:37 am

That sounds kind of like how they had about ninety different people be John Lennon in the musical. Odd.

Goin' back to 2.0, let's just operate under the assumption that one of the girls left it at the apartment.

MNP -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:42 am

Congrats, Secretary! We welcome you to the dark side of Charlotte banking with glee :)

Thanks, E. Gotta say, life is a lot calmer right now than it was a year ago.

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 26 2006, 09:50 am

Congrats to the Sec and MNP both.

On another note, if I see someone on the streets of New York wearing this, I hope the courts will go lightly on me.

I couldn't find the article that I was reading last night, but this one is similar. It's a double backhanded slap from the UK to the US about (a) American political apathy, and (b) the fact that we stole a tv show from them. The article I was actually looking for was a little more acidic than this one.

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 26 2006, 01:03 pm

American Idol drives me nuts. And while our apathy at the polling places is disgusting, it's important to keep in mind that the powers-that-be have actively disenfranchised minority voters in the last two elections (furthering the why-vote mentality), and that, unlike for the president, you're allowed to vote for these morans more than once.

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 26 2006, 01:25 pm

I'm gone, crowd. Everyone have a good weekend, I'll see you on Tuesday.
