Yeah, yeah, the third panel's all weird. But check out this iPod offer from Tide. You can be Goddamn certain I'm entering that every day that it's up. How awesome would that TidePod be? Hi-larious.
MNP mentioned Freakonomics in the comments yesterday, beating me to the punch, because there's evidently a Freakonomics blog that's pretty cool. I haven't read Freakonomics yet, because E's a jerk and won't lend it to me. (Or I forgot to actually borrow it, one or the other.) There's an entry on an article Grafe pointed out to me yesterday about the girl's name Nevaeh, which is evidently 'heaven' backwards, and is a phenomenon attributable to, if you can believe this, the guy from P.O.D. Although I would've found this article anyway, because, as Gawker points out, it was on the front page of the Times. Say what?
ad and readers in the Lone Star Republic, the bandlist for Austin City Limits is here. (How many mega music fesitvals does that town have, anyway?) Some cool bands on there, and - holy shit! A BoDeans sighting! I wonder if they'll play that Closer to Free song?
I.. I just don't know. (sound)
I'm not much of a soccer/football fan, but I do tune into the World Cup every four years. Regardless of my interest level, I do have to confess a fondness for the utterly bizarre naming conventions of non-US teams, and also their awesome emblems. Check out number nine on this list - that is one crazy complex interlocking initial logo.
The telly season is just about wrapping up - if Michael doesn't get brutally killed next week, I'm going to be upset - but Tom the Dog is already telling us what will suck on next year's lineup. Pretty much everything, from the looks of it.
Kind of a cool poem about the Brooklyn Bridge written by some Russian dude back in the 20s.
An old BusinessWeek article on that steaming pile of crap known as the NY Post. My favorite bit:
Lachlan Murdoch refuses to disclose the Post's annual loss -- pegged by outsiders at $15 million to $30 million -- but acknowledges that it widened when the weekday cover price was halved, to 25 cents, in 2000. It's all part of the plan, says Murdoch, who intends to restore the 50 cents cover price if and when the Post passes the Daily News in circulation.
I had no idea that the Post lost that much, nor that they were going to re-up their price when they overtake the Daily News (which will be sooner than you'd think - I think the numbers in that article are dated, and the Daily News only outsells the Post by between 50 and 100,000 copies a day at this point).
Awesome, a blog about fonts and what fonts are being used in what promotions. I'm not kidding, I'm actually kind of jazzed about this. For instance, the DaVinci Code font is Penumbra, which I recognized and couldn't place and it's been bugging the hell out of me. Speaking of the DaVinci Code, the reviews are brutal. And from another source,
"I didn't like it very much. I thought it was almost as bad as the book. Tom Hanks was a zombie, thank goodness for Ian McKellen. It was overplayed, there was too much music and it was much too grandiose," said Peter Brunette, critic for the US daily The Boston Globe.
Emphasis mine. I'm actually astounded that the reviews are this bad, especially because most of the reviews say that the film is painfully slow and dull. I don't know how you make a slow movie out of a book that ends every sentence in an exclamation point, but, OK, whatever.
Oh today's MySpace nightmare - OK, transparent light gray text on gray. Um, sure, guy. (sound)
Alright, everyone have a good weekend. And if you're free during the day today, it's your last chance to see:

Bullfrog -- Friday, May 19 2006, 09:03 am Dear - dear *God*.

Wood -- Friday, May 19 2006, 09:38 am Im not sure what I am more excited to watch during
inter-league play. Watching the aptly named Goat Fuckers get
destroyed by Pedro and the Mets or listening the Sox lazily
roll over the atrocious Phillies.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 19 2006, 10:30 am Do pitching match-ups get much better than Randy Johnson v.
Jeremi Gonzalez? I think not! I hope this rain goes away so
they can get that one in tonight. Otherwise, look for
another of those ridiculous cross-town doubleheaders in
July.
I'm psyched about the Sox-Phils, although Clement going
in Citizen's Bank scares me. I saw a game there last year
where I swear to God Manny hit a pop-up to second and it
carried for a grand slam.
2.0's mom -- Friday, May 19 2006, 11:50 am If you don't run right now to see "Photography &
Contemporary Tactics" you will miss one of the most
intersting and may I say superbly curated exhibitions you
are likely to see for a very long time!
tree -- Friday, May 19 2006, 12:16 pm I want a bombpop.
e -- Friday, May 19 2006, 01:36 pm That's right, I am such a jerk and NEVER lend you books.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 19 2006, 02:18 pm I know, cretin.
Bullfrog -- Friday, May 19 2006, 04:09 pm Pour one on the curb tonight for Rolling Rock. "33" was just
bought out by Budweiser.

I haven't had a Rolling Rock since collitch, and Rolling
Rock in cans was so phenomenally bad that I wouldn't
willfully drink it even back in the day, but I always
thought the Rock in bottles was a fantastic compromise of
cost and taste. Latrobe, PA, looks like this is where we
part.
