Comic for Thursday, May 4th, 2006

They're saying Boo-urns in hell, Johnny.

Posted: 12:08 am, Thursday, May 4th

Damn, did I have fun with this one. Too bad that I couldn't time it to run with the abbreviated series between the Sox and ye olde Goate Fuckairs. Two points if anyone can actually guess my favorite part of the strip.

A total dearth of links today, my bad. Work's been a bitch and I was kind of tired of looking at a computer screen all day when I got home, so I thought I'd give myself a break. All I got is this interview with Olympic hottie Tanith Belbin. She likes the Dave Matthews Band. I am stripping her of her hottie status. That band could kill anyone's mojo.

Faithful readers may remember the lengthy and, in the grand scheme of things, relatively vacuous conversation about Zelda and Zelda II yesterday. The consensus seemed to be Zelda I is superior. One thing's for sure, though, the ads weren't. I remember the Zelda rap, but check out this other one from the first game. Clearly, though, this Zelda II ad is the bomb diggity. I would totally buy that again.

Alright, that's all I got for today. Sorry, I'll try and rally for tomorrow. Oh, wait, I do have one other thing. OK, New York City Five Buckers, 2.0's curating the Pratt Artists League's year-end show at Pratt. Show opens Monday, goes for two weeks. If you've got a Metrocard, you've got a way there. The 411 is as follows:

See? Her name really is 2.0

I always think of Mr. Willoughby's Christmas tree when I see Pratt's address.

Seriously, the show is free, the art is good, and 2.0's been busting her hump on this for a few weeks now. There's a bar nearby with Brooklyn Pennant on tap and a good happy hour. Basically all excuses have been removed. So we'll see you there.

2.0's mom -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 06:22 am

Look for two old people at the show with tears of joy and pride running down their cheeks. That'll be her mom and dad, in town to see her get in Master's in Art History. Way to go, Maneth!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 07:03 am

You always like your girlfriend's mom to lead off the comments on the day a limp-wristed fetus is referred to in the strip.

2.0 -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 07:43 am

Mom, must you refer to me in that way in public. After all I am an adult--geesh.

ktbb -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 07:52 am

I *love* that Lissa is wearing her Mets shirt to a Yankees game. Go Mets!

Secretary -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 08:12 am

Congrats, 2.0! I would totally go if I lived anywhere near NYC!

Reggie Ho -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 08:55 am

Conspicuously missing from the strip depicting a game, presumably at Yankee Stadium, is the infamous guy I always seem to see with the mullet. I feel as if, as luck would have it, that he is always at the game and always sitting right in front of me. The strip cannot be an accurate depiction of reality without the mullet-guy.

Zero -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 09:11 am

Yankee Stadium without showing the bleacher tools doing roll call? For shame! Give the dorks their due!

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 09:18 am

Hey, new father Zero in the audience, ladies and gentlemen. I've been forgetting for about a week and a half straight now to offer congrats, man. So - congrats!

Pat -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 10:01 am

Fuck DMB. I hate them too. Although that girl is still mad hott.

Eric -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 10:22 am

Which do you think was the bigger subplot from Monday? Damon's return in pinstripes, or 'Belli's return in red piping?

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 10:31 am

Mirabelli, hands-down. We all knew Damon was going to return to Fenway as a Goat Fucker - it's not like he's going to sit out the nine or ten games out of some strange respect or something - but Dougie getting to Fenway in a manner not unlike the last ten minutes of a 1980s teen movie is outstanding. And I doubt it's a coincidence that Wake pitched his best game of the season. It's like two players in one.

Zero -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 10:39 am

Thank you! I promise a picture of her in one of her 2 Sox onesies with her stuffed Green Monster will be posted soon! Last night we had a discussion about the game during the 4am feeding: Me: Well, I think Papelbon will bounce back, don't you? Rebecca Jayne: (urrp)

MNP -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 12:49 pm

Really? Bush isn't fluent in Spanish?? I'm SHOCKED. SHOCKED.

Wood -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 12:50 pm

Mirabelli is a man's man's man. Number 28 would hit 70 HRs easy if he was an everyday catcher.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 01:48 pm

McClellan's got a case of senioritis. I can't wait for next week - "Yeah, Bush actually can't read, either. This whole Iraq thing? Yep, bullshit. What else you guys want cleared up? I don't care, man, I'm totally outta here."

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 02:36 pm

Wow, George Lucas is a total asshole. After years of saying he'd never release the three Star Wars movies on DVD in their pre-1997 fucked-up versions, and after selling two or three versions of the films since this declaration, he's finally releasing the Star Wars movies in their original form. What - a - cretin.

That said, I'll probably get them.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 02:39 pm

I like the Hater Nation and its unapologetic take on things. From Deadspin:

MNP -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 04:04 pm

Okay, are you going to ever tell us what the favorite part of the strip is??

E -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 04:17 pm

"Poor women are getting pregnant unintentionally at considerably higher rates now than in the mid-1990s, and they are giving birth to many more unplanned children and having more abortions.

In contrast, the rate of unplanned pregnancies and resulting abortions for more affluent women declined substantially during the same eight-year period, according to a new study by researchers at the Guttmacher Institute who analyzed federal data."

Hmmm... GOP = rich, which makes it easy to say we should get rid of contraceptives and abortions. Not their problem.

Oh, and why is the poverty line at $16K for a family of 3? No wonder people are eating 3 meals a day off the 99 cent menu.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, May 4 2006, 04:33 pm

There's a great bit in Chomsky's Hegemony or Survival about how the "family friendly" policies of the right wing are actually about as detrimental toward families as possible. Maybe I'll get up the urge to find it tonight and drop it on y'all t'morrow.

I'll tell you tomorrow, MNP.
