Would *would* Abe do?

Posted: 12:00 am, Tuesday, May 2nd

Threadless will not rest until you own one of their t-shirts and are having another ten dollar sale. I, apparently having an affinity for shirts with women, blood splatters, and guns on them, recommend this reprint.

Listening to the Sox-Goat Fuckers right now. Jerry and Joe are trying to defend Damon, half-heartedly, and the crowd is chanting 'traitor' at Johnathon, which is fun. They were evidently throwing dollar bills at him in center when he first took the field. I guess he saluted the crowd before leading off the game, but that'll only not get you mercilessly booed for so long. Giambi got the ol' reliable 'steroids' chant, which is also fun. Go Sox, go. Ron Guidry is the Goat Fuckers' pitching coach now? I had no idea. Of course, I don't think I've watched them play since last September.

As I mentioned yesterday, the links to the left are an ever-evolving mess of orange, and I already added to it - Overheard in New York is always good for a laugh. This one's one of the best I've ever seen. I also added the Comics Curmudgeon - under not to be missed, instead of strippin', no less.

This may shock you, but Alito is going to be the swing vote on three upcoming cases. Huh. Even more shocking, check out the death-penalty laws in Kansas. I know this will blow you right away, but it turns out Kansas has some kind of fucked-up laws regarding the death penalty. I know! I never saw it coming, either.

Sweet article from New York Times mag on Sunday (thanks, Grafe), adapted from the upcoming Why Liberals - and Only Liberals - Can Win the War on Terror and Make America Great Again. It kind of relates to what we got into down in the comments yesterday about the Dems being wishy-washy, and gets into how the Democrats lost their ability to get a message across re: foreign policy. A good read.

Was dicking around finding some new blogs yesterday, largely music related and centered in Brooklyn. We've got Feed Me Good Tunes, which offers plenty of Mp3s by artists you known and love or maybe don't know and maybe won't love, but they're free, so shush. Then we've got Free Hiphop Now, which has a ton of free music that I've never heard of before. Here's Muzzle of Bees, which seems to be kind of mostly news, Mp3s from time-to-time, and is also a Wilco song. Then there's Mixologists, with plenty of links to iTunes and no actual songs that I noticed, but their It Was a Very Good Year challenges are a heady trip into the way-back machine. Check out 1994 - holy learner's permit soundtrack, Batman. Will any of these get added to the links on the left? Who knows. Oh, last bit o' music. Much like Threadless, I refuse to stop mentioning the Hold Steady. They went into the studio to start recording yesterday. I'm not sure if Curves Nerves is just a B-side or maybe something for the upcoming album (I'm guessing B-side, since it's about forty seconds long), and the remixes both are very inferior to the cuts on Almost Killed Me, but, hell, I'll link to their MySpace page despite my disdain for MySpace.

So, hey, it's May 2nd, the third year anniversary of if not one of the best days of my life, one of my favorite (I wrote about it last year). It was days like that one that are the sort of thing I want to capture in the strip, day-in and day-out. I think I get it sometimes. Anyway, hope everyone has a good one.

Is Ron really at home practicing the trombone. Is he going to start a ska band? Cause that would be awesome.

Also, re: yesterdays promise of more punchlines, your dialogue is pretty witty by itself. Add to that a good story and great style and the punchlines seem almost unimportant.

All I've got are those two cents and the following slice of irony:

MNP -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 07:19 am

You linked to May 5, by the way...

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 07:39 am

Whoops! I changed the naming convention at the start of '06 and forgot when I was grabbing the link. Sorry 'bout that.

http://www.fivebuckstofriday.com/archive/archi ve050205.html

Gunnar, I totally wouldn't've gotten that sign, either. I still don't get it. Ron definitely was practicing the trombone, but to what end, I haven't decided yet.

Ondy -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 08:41 am

The Yankee tv crew was saying that Hair Like Jesus, Throws Like Mary, Loyal Like Judas was saluting the Red Sox players and not the Fenway crowd. It was hard to tell...he was definitely looking in the home dugout direction.

David Ortiz might be the most monstrous force at the plate I've ever seen. Incredible.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 09:22 am

MLB.com has a video of it - I think he was doing both, and there was a quote of him saying he heard enough cheers to warrant it. The gang over at Let's Go Sox says Jonathon looked close to tears after a while because of the booing.

Of course, they were really saying "Burns."

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 09:42 am

I see I need to add some space between the left-hand bar and the post area..

crownover -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 09:43 am

the greek/roman overheard in new york is hilarious!

2.0 -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 11:06 am

Perhaps if you changed the colors of the font, or added a line to divide the sidebar from the strip and blog? Also I think the blog part and the links part should be even so as to set the strip apart from them.

I'm on a little design high from last nights collaboration...sorry.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 12:38 pm

I think additional spacing and maybe a vertical line. The way I've got the site set up is using tables and cells (silly ol' me hadn't learned .css yet, and still only kind of grasps it), so getting the links and blog to line up would take day-to-day precise effort. I'm pretty sure we can all say that's not exactly my forte.

2.0 -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 01:19 pm

Indeed, day-to-day adjustments really doesn't seem practical. Line it is then...

Grafe -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 01:34 pm

I think you should write the blog on post it notes and snail mail it to us.

Grafe -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 01:42 pm

Sorry, that last one was a bit snarky. I'm expected to be on good behaviour at work, so sometimes it spills over.

Why does the metrolink card link to the links section and then the links are also linked on the side?

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 02:14 pm

Explained it yesterday, Grafe - was feeling like those that link to me were getting kind of a raw deal by me shuffling them to a secondary page, basically. But I still like the Metrocard icon, so I'm keeping it up there.

Reggie Ho -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 02:16 pm

Red Sox fans = suck! A guy wins you a World Series, up to which you bitched and moaned all this self-pitying crap day in and day out, and now you boo the guy to no end. Losers.

Speaking of Losers, my favorite Kay-ism during the game last night..."And Mirabelli throws out Bubba Crosby, that's what they got him for." Pretty sure the reason the Sox picked up Mirabelli WAS NOT to throw out Bubba Crosby.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 03:33 pm

Reggie, the booing of Johnathon has to do with actually caring about your team and having a soul. Basically, you wouldn't understand.

I kid, I kid.

But Damon's still a toolbag.

Reggie Ho -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 03:38 pm

You forced me to go WWF(E) on you now...SUCK IT!

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 03:58 pm

That seems like an excellent reason to link to this 1983 match between Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=3gA_U3NIs24&search= hulk%20hogan%20andre%20the%20giant

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 04:04 pm

Oh, hell, that wasn't even a very good match, and the stupid video ended before the match did! Oh well, it still proves that YouTube is the greatest thing ever.

Ondy -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 04:42 pm

Holy crap, Andre and Hogan taking it out into the crowd! Good stuff, thanks for that. A guy comments that it ends in a double count-out.

Bullfrog -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 04:51 pm

Oh, good, this tailgating video of some ND MBA fucktards made it to Deadspin. Faaaaaantastic.

Reggie Ho -- Tuesday, May 2 2006, 09:34 pm

Whoa, I just saw Bullfrog go flopping by like a dead fish across the dance floor wearing a Chad Pennington jersey!

MJL -- Wednesday, May 3 2006, 12:35 am

I know Grafe disagrees, but I kind of liked Zelda II better than the original. But then again, my video game career never got much past the NES.
