Comic for Monday, April 17th, 2006

Posted: 7:42 am, Monday, April 17th
I don't have a whole lot to say here, since it's pretty early on Monday morning and I haven't even had my coffee yet. Happy Patriots' Day - I'm actually staying home from work to take my parents to the MoMA, so it's almost like I live in Boston, except for the fact that I won't be able to watch the game or any psychotic runners go streaming by.
2.0 and I watched some PBS in our post-Easter comas yesterday, and the coming attractions included an American Experience on the San Francisco earthquake, and something called "Shalom, Y'all," about Jews down South, which, frankly, I can't even really begin to envision. What we actually watched was part of a show on the Massie Affair, in which a white woman claimed to be gang-raped by several Hawaiian men in the 1930s. Despite the fact she was nuts and clearly lying, a shitstorm of racism blew up over the whole thing. Most of it was caused by this jerk, whose grave I kind of want to deface.
A happy birthday to RAW, without whom, Five Bucks would more or less be a photocopied sheet of paper I'd have to scan and e-mail to everyone.
The only other thing I have at the moment is if you're Netflixing the Academy Award winning film Crash, make sure you don't get the David Cronenberg 1996 film Crash, because it's something entirely different, and not very good. It's about car crashes and sex, and somehow manages to suck despite this.
Oh, but, hey - my interweb works again, so that's something.

RAW -- Monday, April 17 2006, 09:43 am Thanks, bullfrog.
My brother, ND class of '93, recently attended the Notre
Dame Alumni Club of Lake County, Illinois UND Celebration
where Dr. John Affleck-Graves, the school's Executive Vice
President, was the speaker. Apparently, when he opened the
floor to questions from the crowd, some of the older folks
proceeded to grill him for about an hour about the decision
to allow Vagina Monologues to be performed on campus. Now,
I'm even more excited to hear Fr. Jenkins in DC in a few
weeks.
MJL -- Monday, April 17 2006, 12:42 pm This from the Boston Marathon site:
The six mile split is 29:01 (4:41 per mile).
That's just not human.
Pat -- Monday, April 17 2006, 01:15 pm When you say Patriots' Day, is that a reference to the 1916
Easter Rising in Dublin? My "I know everything about
Ireland" weird uncle must have mentioned the fact that it
happened 90 years ago today at least 90 times, once for each
year since 1916.
Wood -- Monday, April 17 2006, 05:08 pm How about Papelbon this year? The new faces (loretta and
beckett included) are really starting to charge up the team.
