Comic for Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Posted: 7:25 am, Thursday, March 16th
Whoo-ee, March Madness kicks off in mere hours! One of my favorite Letterman-isms of all time, "Are you like me? Do you have the March Madness?" Good times. Of course, I'm going to be at the office. I thought, briefly, about live-blogging me sitting at my desk, following the games on ESPN's little play-by-play thingy, but that's kind of conceptual and likely not to actually be all that funny. Besides, everyone and their frigging brother is going to be live-blogging these things. I am exctied for twelve straight hours (or however long) of team that you'd never actually see on TV playing. Unfortunately, thanks to the NCAA screwing up everything with the pod system a few years back, I have no idea who's actually playing today. Since I live in New York, I'm sure I'll be seeing the Syracuse game and maybe the UConn game. I'm fine with this - I don't mind Syracuse at all and I'd love to get to see SUNY Albany try and hang with UConn for five or six minutes. Then, of course, there's Oral Roberts, which the always-unreadable Daily Quickie thinks has a chance against Memphis. Seriously, first time I'd read the Daily Quickie in like eight months, I think.
Enough basketball, let's quick touch on some baseball - I saw this on Deadspin yesterday in between all the March Madness stuff, evidently Pittsburgh lefty Zach Duke, who I saw against the Mets last year and who was excellent, is keeping a journal for the local paper. It's a little daffy, which makes for excellent reading.
Cruising through Fark, this guy's site was called by the mayor to be the worst thing that's ever happened to Venice, FL. Which is quite an accomplishment, really. Especially when you check out all the stuff that's happened in Venice, FL.
I believe this link is reasonably safe for work, but it does involve the porn industry. Specifically, these are the porned-up versions of movie titles from 2005. There's some good ones on there and some painfully obvious ones, but, all in all, relatively amusing.
What else. Not actually a lot. Because the universe likes to keep me honest, I've actually been kind of under the weather ever since I took my "sick" day on Monday. Honestly, ever since I told my mom I wore my hat on the playground in first grade and then she found it on the top shelf of the closet, I've gotten away with maybe one of every three hundred and seventy lies I've tried to tell. Which one would think would keep me from trying to get away with shit, but, again, I'm not very smart. Anyway, as a result of being dog-tired, I missed calls from two of my buddies on the Left Coast whom I barely ever get to talk to. One of whom's found the site - holla, Starky, if you're checking daily, I was asleep at the embarrassingly early hour of nine fifteen or so.
But, hey, the Irish beat Vandy. So that's good. I'm going to try to end the week on an upnote tomorrow, squad. Bear with me, here.

2.0 -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 08:20 am I just wanted to let you know it seems you are allowed to
eat corned beef this St. Pat's without fear of being smote.
so sayeth this very official source:

ad -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 08:59 am I think I'm still out of luck with the corned beef because
the Austin diocese has been mum on the whole affair. Now if
the US Conf. of Catholic Bishops said something, then I'd be
in business. But apparently they're more concerned with The
DaVinci Code (http://www.usccb.org/comm/archives/2006/06-049
.shtml); though I'm tempted to check out
jesusdecoded.com.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 09:11 am In a world where logic meant anything, a call to censure of
Shitwit would not only be voted through but would have
happened several years ago.
In a Republican-run government, it is a rallying cry to
the mouth-breathers.

MNP -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 11:05 am Does this mean I'm supposed to respect Jessica Simpson now?
please say no.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 11:12 am No.
Turning Shitwit and his cronies down should be as natural
to all human beings as breathing, so it's not all that
respect winning. Still, like her more than I did a few
minutes ago.
And it's awesome that her favorite charity revolves
around plastic surgery. That is hilarious.
E -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 11:30 am Hmm... my invitation to that dinner tonight must have been
sent to my old address. At least there is still a seat
open.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 12:32 pm How devoted am I to this strip? Friggin' March Madness just
tipped off and I am on my way to the library to draw during
my lunch break. Fo' sheezy.
Whatever that means.
MNP -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 12:40 pm we love you for it, bullfrog :)
Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 01:07 pm Yeah, well, so much for that. I got to the library and
realized I had left my drawing pad plugged in to my office
computer because I actually got to use it for work earlier
this morning. Son of a bitch. So I ran to the bank instead.
And now I'm back with twenty minutes or so left in lunch
- and I still can't watch basketball because some
masochistic bastard scheduled an all-afternoon meeting in
the conference room with the TV.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 01:31 pm An hour into the tourney and I'm already rooting against my
entire bracket. I for some reason picked Seton Hall to win
two games, but am rooting for the Wichita State Shockers
because that's hilarious. I actually have UWM over the
Sooners, and am rooting for Pacific because Boston Collitch
is for suckers.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 04:23 pm Do you ever look at your bracket and go, "Holy shit, what
retarded space alien who's never heard of college basketball
filled this thing out?!"
That's where I am right now.
Reggie Ho -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 04:27 pm That's pretty much the reaction ever year upon looking at
your bracket. Sometimes it's so retarded (see post above
regarding picking Seton Hall to win twice) that we are left
to wonder whether you are actually a member of the Bowden
family.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, March 16 2006, 04:47 pm Well, that's not very nice.
