I'd like to thank the incredibly inefficient healthcare system in this country for making today's strip possible.

I'm horrendously sick today, winkwink, so there's not going to be a whole lot. I'm waiting for CBS to finish running stock footage and finally get to the damn selection show at the moment - did anyone notice that they ran One Shining Moment during the SEC title game? What the hell is that? You should only be allowed to play that song once a season. On the other hard, I am enjoying this journey through the last 25 March Madnesses. That Bryce Drew shot for Valpo in '98 was one of the most exciting plays I've ever seen in basketball. I was watching that in Myrtle Beach on spring break with the boys - probably the most disastrous spring break in which no one actually died on record - and it brought the hungover house down when it happened.

Alright, so what do I have for you? Well, as anyone who's ever met me can attest, I am not very well-versed in hip-hop couture. But I do have to question the Scarface phenomenon. OK, I get it - money, power, respect, the world is yours. Fine, whatever. A story about a self-made guy who becomes incredibly wealthy by dealing coke. Great. It ends disastrously for him, of course, but I can understand if no one can make it through the nine hours of film it takes to get that far. I never have - I think I've only ever watched maybe 20 minutes of it, actually. I'm not a big Pacino fan. So I don't know if that removes me from having any right to comment on how hideously godawful butt-ugly Scarface wear is. Look at some of that shit. Sixteen hundred bucks for that lambskin one? Dear God. I haven't actually ever seen that one out and about, but I have seen this one a few times and it is really one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. I was going to get all on my soapbox about how if you own this jacket, you'd better have clean credit and all your bills paid and stuff (just like my feeling on spinners, and similar to my feelings on grills, except that you'd also better need to chomp through wires in your hunt for 007 if you're getting grills), but I'm still all verklempt about the sixteen hundred dollar lambskin number. Dear God.

NOFX finally has a new album coming out soon. I'm so excited I might get the advance EP. I don't get it - how does it take three years to get thirty-five minutes on a CD? Oh well. Between NOFX and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I'm pretty psyched for the next few weeks.

I just found out that the Redskins signed Randle-El. That's exciting. Commence jokes about Randle-El being the best QB on the team... now.

Anyway, happy bracket day to everyone who dragged themselves into the office today. Reggie Ho will do his annual picking by feelings toward the teams, meaning that because he hates Dook, Gonzaga, UNC, BC, Kentucky and several other teams I'm forgetting, he's probably going to have Oral Roberts winning the whole thing. By the way, congrats to SUNY Albany on their first-ever ticket to the Big Dance. I might duck in from time to time, depending on the weather today. If it's nice, I'm hitting the park. Because, uh, nothing helps a .. cold.. or whatever I have.. like hangin' in the park.

What's Ron's calendar?

Reggie Ho -- Monday, March 13 2006, 08:06 am

Oral Roberts all the way. Amen. And may God strike all you down that disagree.

By the way Cincinnati got screwed. Seton Hall sucks and they got in but Cincinnati (who also kind of sucks) who had a good record against RPI teams will be on the NIT circuit. Bradley and Air Force over Cincy? BRADLEY? Upon Oral's command, God will take his revenge against the selection committee for the Cincy snub.

If anyone cares, the newspaper world just got a bit smaller as the second largest newspaper business in the country is being sold to one half its size. Unfortunately, since the paper I work for is the only one in town, it looks like my crappy job is safe for a while. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/a rticle_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002157391

Ron's got a Notre Dame football calendar - this month is the Robot Genius himself, in an undated version of this shot from his Patriot days.

Wait, you're a 'Cuse fan, too? I had no idea.

You'll be happy to know I quasi-rooted for Dook for the first time in my life on Sunday. Fuckin' Boston Collitch. I love that they got shafted on seeding and shipped out to Utah for their game. In one season in the ACC, they've represented themselves pretty well, and have gotten sent to Boise and Salt Lake City for their troubles. That is awesome. Screw you, Eagles.
