The evangelist of loooooove.

An apology for today's blog and likely tomorrow's, as well - my little cousin is crashing with us for the next few days and while I've got the strips all taken care of, the blog may suffer a little bit. I hope not, though.

I drew this one during lunch one day last week, and upon returning to the office, got into an e-mail conversation with a reader (whom I will not out) over the lamest thing we've ever done for a girl. I forget what started this - likely learning Olympic-level ice dancing to try and get to date your partner (this conversation was no doubt inspired by Tanith Belbin) - but my buddy said that he once went to church for a girl. While this is not nearly as damning as what I once did for a girl (date her for two and a half years), I thought it was pretty funny coming on the heels of this strip. The other tangentally relevent anecdote I have about today's comic is that Tree and I were bumming around Cinque Terre back in the fall of '97, wide-eyed sophomores abroad and exploring Italy for the first time without a prof guiding us. We happened upon a church in Cinque Terre and explored it for no other reason than that seemed the thing to do - honestly, we probably just found a local parish with absolutely no historical or architectural value whatsoever. There was a shrine to Mary inside with the inscription, in Latin, "Only you are beautiful." We had our buddy Walter with us, also - I remember him doing the translating, which doesn't really add up because Tree's a whiz at Latin - who became immediately disgusted when we began memorizing how to say "only you are beautiful" to use it on some unsuspecting lass in our study-abroad program. Really, we should not have been let out of the country.

This season is probably the most I’ve followed the NBA since freshman year. I lived down the hall from a rabid Bulls fans and would watch games with him to avoid telling Reggie Ho how much I hated my philosophy class. Why am I following so closely this year? Because the dramarama surrounding the Knicks is awesome. Isiah Thomas is quickly becoming legendarily incompetent as a GM. The team is the highest spending in the league and has if not the worst record, pretty damn close. Not only is he horrid as a talent evaluater and deal maker, but he's also embroiled in a sexual harrassment suit. And yet they don't fire him! Awesome. Also, from that link - is 15-41 really “a start”?  Isn’t that close to two-thirds of the season?

I don't know if this game is actually making the leap from Japan to here, but Zombies v. Ambulances sounds like a fantastic idea.

A little Onion sugar for my editors and editoristas out there. Also from the Onion, a great little diddy on reviewing Christian Rock. I tried finding some honest reviews of Christian rock out there, but all I came up with was either stuff straight from the intended audience that was laudatory without addressing their music and the Allmusic profiles for DC Talk and Audio Adrenaline. Both of those were albums that my best friend in high school owned. I'm not kidding. Another friend's brother was a big fan of One Bad Pig, who seem to have never reached the acclaim of DC Talk. But they did get their picture taken with Johnny Cash. I will let Grafe contemplate the fact that Johnny Cash was an honorary Bad Pig.

Although the Knicks have their problems and no one really wants Isiah (pronounced I-ZA-EH...somehow) in charge, no bad mouthing them, please or I will be forced to disclosed to the whole internet universe your love for the Dave Matthews Band! Whoops.

Right. You know how much I love to play hackeysack and listen to a twenty-minute fiddle and sax jam with the rest of the staff from Ambercrombie.

Websnark hit up a Jack Chick goodie today - seemed like it fit. I like that the Chaplain goes to hell for doing basically the same thing Chick is by writing these tracts all the time. Ironicalicious!
