Comic for Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Posted: 7:42 am, Wednesday, March 1st
Comin' to you live from the mothership. I hope yesterday and today's strips don't for some reason come off preachy. That's really all I've got to say about this, I guess.
Ooh, an ad for the new Hills Have Eyes. I'm not sure if I'm excited about this or not - it looks like it may be a rockin' remake in the vein of the new Dawn of the Dead (shut it, Tree, it's a good flick), but it could easily be a disaster along the lines of Amityville or Texas Chainsaw. I'm hoping vaguely zombie-like creatures = remake gold. A nice Richard Cheese song could never hurt, either.
I know Ondy’s been digging Roth, but he’s evidently lost most of Stern’s audience. Which is no shock. I don’t listen to the radio in the morning – or hardly ever, really – so I don’t really care, but I like the bottom of the article, talking about “potential beneficiaries” of Stern’s departure. Star on WWPR is the morning guy on Power 105 – the hip-hop station. I don’t pretend to know the demographics of Stern’s show, but I generally picture white dudes, not hip-hoppers. “Curtis and Kuby on WABC” is my favorite. I have no idea what the Curtis and Kuby show is like. I may be wrong, it may not be horrible. But WABC is the local mouth-breather talk radio station, with such luminaries as Dr. Laura, Rush and Sean Hannity filling their schedule during the week. Really? Stern fans didn’t flock there after he left the freewaves? I'm shocked.
I grabbed this off Fark - the Milwaukee Art Museum hosted a martinifest that ended in absolute disaster. Vomit on the art, damage to the walls... Super! My two favorite bits from the article: Clearchannel sponsored it, and the guy that said, "People, boy, they wanted their martinis."
I used to want to like Jay Mohr for some reason. I suppose because Go really kicked ass. But his CNNSI column is absolutely ass-terrible beyond all belief. Thankfully, the gang at Fire Joe Morgan are around, and they demolish his latest 'effort.'
I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet, but by gum do I love stories on Scientology, and the latest Rolling Stone has a long one. Hoping to have time for it later today.
And, finally, the Globe yesterday had a relatively meh story with an awesome first few paragraphs on the ridiculous injuries that baseball players tend to suffer.
And, hey, it's a Five and Dime! Crazy. I think we're looking at maybe a Wednesday/Friday schedule for these guys, but I'm not swearing by that.

2.0 -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 08:39 am I thought you might all want to know, the Conservatives have
finally figure out why President Bush is failing in the
polls...it's because...he's a liberal. Yep.
Just ask Tucker Carlson:

I guess they think this is an easier argument then
say...he's a total moron?
CK -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 08:42 am I was walking down Eighth Avenue last night, and I found
myself behind a nine- or ten-year-old kid in a red parka and
red ski hat, walking with a woman in a similar hat. And then
I realized the back of the kid's parka was embroidered with
the words "THE TRUTH / THE WAY / DIANETICS." Then I heard
the kid say something about "my sister" to the woman, which
to me indicates she was not his mother. . . . I don't know
what was going on there, but I marveled/worried about the
fact that L. Ron is getting them so young.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 08:52 am Spending liberally and liberal spending are two vastly
different things. Not that I have to explain that in this
forum, but it sounds like *some* bow-tied twits don't know
the difference.
ad -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 09:01 am Frank Deford has a piece on NPR this morning about
basketballl at Catholic universities. He starts in
football, so ND gets a shout out, but nothing for our
basketball team. Instead he focuses on Gonzaga and
Villanova who both are doing incredibly well, apparently.
So, is he Cathollic? Deford seems to do quite a bit about
ND and other Catholic institutions. Enjoy.

Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 09:41 am Don't have time to read the article right now, ad, but
Deford writes on ND a lot on CNNSI - not, like, tons, but
more than he mentions other colleges. I get the feeling he's
Catholic, but he may just have been raised in the era of Ara
when ND was completely inescapable.
Catholic schools playing hoops - you ever notice how much
of the old Big East was Catholic? St. John's, Providence,
BC, Georgetown, 'Nova, Seton Hall - with the exception of
the Eagles, all we pretty spectacular in the league's 1980s
heyday.
dave -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 12:34 pm i'm a big DLR fan from his days in van halen. his story
is a pretty decent one. dave was an EMT even after leaving
VH. i hear he lives somewhere in brooklyn. van halen, in
retrospect suffered in too many ways without his stage
presence, antics and great singing voice. at the time when
sammy hagar joined the band, i liked some of the tunes, i
still do. but there's no denying that david lee roth IS van
halen.
to the point of DLR on radio, in place of howard stern.
it is still, a good move, i think. dave is interesting, to
say the least. i'm hoping for a van halen reunion, with him
in place. but he's slowly working it on this show. i don't
listen to it live, but rather from itunes, after the show is
edited. dave reminds me of how conan o'brien started. conan
was pretty bad at first, then found his niche. dave just
needs a little more time.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 02:26 pm I've got nil knowledge of Van Halen - David Lee Roth lights
the menorah, that's about the extent of it.
The only morning show I've ever listened to was Early EQX
with Pete and Donna over the summers when I was back from
college. That wasn't so much a morning show as they were the
morning DJs, though.
Bullfrog -- Wednesday, March 1 2006, 03:40 pm Ugh, terrible grammar in that last sentence by yours truly.
