Torn from the pages of.. um. Never mind.

Posted: 7:45 am, Monday, January 30th

We had a birthday party for 2.0 this weekend and all her girlfriends from the 585 were crashing with us. Between partying and driving to the airport and mostly the partying, I am beat like the Michigan Wolverines. So this'll be quick, as I really just want to die. I didn't mean for Ron's boss to come out looking Dick Cheney, it just kind of happened. Also, the events of this strip aren't occurring to me in real life, in case anyone is thinkin' that - this is more an ode to poor ol' Crownover right now than me. Finally, that's the Five Bucks number two play o' the year (Blue-Gray Sky number one)(sound) on Ron's calendar...

I'll be back with more later, gang. Now I just need to sleep.

So the Irish managed to lose ANOTHER close Big East game. I think that now means we've lost 6 Big East games by a total of 20 points. 2 of those games went to double overtime. Seriously, I think if I were on the team, I would quit.

Rick Majerus (um, don't know how to spell his name) was doing color commentary during the game and kept comparing Chris Quinn to "JJ Reddick, except not as talented". Yeah. Not sure I'd want that comparison, thanks.

Thanks to everyone that came out on Saturday! My apologies to those who got turned away because it was "too crowded" (SKT). I had a great time, hope you all did too.

Reggie Ho -- Monday, January 30 2006, 08:36 am

Perfect example of why Brey cannot turn these guys into winners. If we had Majerus at the side of the court leading these guys, he'd find a way to win these tight games. That's what differentiates a mediocre coach (Brey...although a fine upstanding individual) from a great coach. Going to be a long season and going to make recruiting tough going into next year. I feel as if we are entering into a dark period of ND Basketball. Very sad.

Well, according to NPR, today is Cheney's b-day, so maybe this is your b-day message to him. Apparently, the man is *only* 65. How do you have 4 heart attacks BEFORE 65?

MNP -- Monday, January 30 2006, 09:31 am

Hasn't it ALWAYS been a dark period in ND Basketball? I mean, did you go to any games while we were in school? we had players who shot free throws underhanded!!!

Bullfrog -- Monday, January 30 2006, 09:33 am

Oh, man, I remember that guy. In the words of Tiny House, that was *not* awesome.

Reggie Ho -- Monday, January 30 2006, 11:49 am

I do remember days where we had the character to beat UConn at home when they were ranked. Perhaps that was the peak of the program but the team's talent and makeup are not all that dissimilar to the very teams that were able to knock of teams like UConn every now and then.

MNP -- Monday, January 30 2006, 12:20 pm

Oh, you are just depressing, Reggie. Maybe Brey isn't the best coach out there, but he's a hell of a lot better than whats-his-face (darn it, what WAS his name?) who coached while we were there.

Bullfrog -- Monday, January 30 2006, 12:28 pm

McLeod?

His kid sat in front of me in class the day he was fired (actually, he got fired over spring break - must've been the first day back to classes). I almost felt bad for him, but he had a freaking Daryl Strawberry Yankees jersey on.

dave -- Monday, January 30 2006, 01:17 pm

bullfrog: can you explain the 'boss' a little more? he doesn't look really too much like the VP. he's too tall, thinner, younger looking, and a little hipper dresser than the 2nd in command. does he have a name and will we be seeing more of him and/or ron's co-workers?

E -- Monday, January 30 2006, 01:50 pm

Well, if it is Cheney then I prefer we see no more of him unless it is a violent and graphic demise.

Bullfrog -- Monday, January 30 2006, 02:26 pm

Not much to explain - I thought he looked like Cheney about the face in the first panel. If he didn't appear that way to you guys, that's good, because he was just supposed to be a boss. I shouldn't've dressed him in black and gray since I meant him to be a bit more nebbish-y, but them's the breaks. I try and keep Ron out of the office as much as possible, since a wise man (who reads the site) once told me not to blog about the people that I date or the place in which I work. Since I have nothing but good things to say about 2.0, I ignore the first rule, and I try and keep Ron's experiences at the office as broad as possible. Maybe the boss will get a name someday - right now, he's just the boss.

Sweet, it was Tampa's weird civic holiday this past weekend!

GRRRRR!!!! I wonder why they moved Gasparilla into January. I guess it is better not to dedicate Black History Month to a fictious pirate.

dave -- Monday, January 30 2006, 03:09 pm

i think it was more a natural tansition of seeing ron elsewhere, as in a professional setting. he's not just a cast member of the show 'friends'. he actually looks like he works for a living. he probably reminds us dudes of ourselves in some ways. it pretty impressive that your comic has evolved very nicely in the year & half of its life, online anyway.

dave -- Monday, January 30 2006, 03:18 pm

additionally, there is obviously your own personal characteristics within each character. the notre dame connection, fans of both the smashing pumpkins and boston red sox. obviously there more of 'you' in ron and pete, but could there be attributes of you or what you see in or would want to see in a woman, in lissa and/or jen?

this is a great daily read for all of us, and as always, keep up the good work.

58°F in windsor terrace right now.

Bullfrog -- Monday, January 30 2006, 04:58 pm

Well, shoot, you know.. I try.

I'm sure someone said it before him, but Bill Watterson once said that every character is Calvin and Hobbes is 50% him (except for Moe, who he described as "every jerk I've ever met"). The same is probably true for the gang. I started off drawing them with people in mind for them to be, and they've kind of evolved along the way to be amalgams of my friends and parts of my psyche.

Anyway, it's Miller time again.
