It's true.

Posted: 7:45 am, Friday, January 27th

In case anyone missed my bitchfest from yesterday and MNP's late-breaking news about a response form for Jenkins, um, well, that right there was the recap.

I don't actually have all that much, capping off my week of not really having all that much quite nicely, don't you think? Today is the last day for the Black Table, a humor site I've quite enjoyed over the last year and a half or so. They had a good one about a beer run yesterday, rating some of the brews of the world, but my favorite of their beer runs was the cheap beer run, because I am, at heart, a swill-drinker. High Life is my cheapie of choice. (The cheapest beer I've ever had? This one, which I may have gone over once before.)

I gave this article on Collitch Football News half a read before remembering these guys usually don't have any idea what they're talking about. The one thing worth noticing, though, is the descriptors after "Impact" for each player. "Idelible," "Herculean," "Profound," "Far-reaching." I would love it if those adjectives showed up in my annual review this year.

I inadvertently ruined the ending of Six Feet Under for myself today.  Shit.  If you’ve seen it, don’t discuss it below, 2.0’s still in the dark as far as I know, and it’s primarily her show, anyway.

Did anyone see Lost on Wednesday? I made brief mention of it yesterday, but got distracted thinking about how stone-age the administration at Notre Dame is.  Anyway, it was another Charlie-heroin episode, and at the end, when the li’l Hobbit has fucked up yet again, he’s sitting a campfire by himself, thinking about what he’s done, and he pulls the hood of his sweatshirt up. Which Charlie does a lot, but only when he wants to be reflective or creep around. The effect is actually just to make him look like a creep.

Regardless, I think I’m going to start doing it at the office. Quick explanation – it is usually pretty cold at my desk. I’ve tried and tried to get them to turn the AC down, but they’re either incapable or sadistic and possible both. So I’ve taken to wearing a hoody around the office. I’ll comply to your stupid business casual dress code as soon as you make my cubicle habitable, jerks. So, since I’ve usually got a hoody on at the office, whenever I have a run-in with one of the consultants or something, I think I’m going to start pulling my hood up. Maybe I’ll get some masking tape from office services and wrap it around my fingers, too. This is going to be great.

So, with my hood up, I bid ye a happy weekend. We've got some of 2.0's high school friends rolling in early tomorrow morning, but they're rolling out again early on Sunday, so we may have something resembling a post on Monday. Quick wrap-up, E advances one year closer to the cold release of death today, so wish her a happy one. Tomorrow is 20 years since the Challenger disaster, which I remember clearly because it pre-empted the final Showcase on the Price is Right, which I was watching because of a snow day. Um. Yes, that is all.

Go Wings!

E -- Friday, January 27 2006, 09:29 am

Uh, thanks for that cheery b-day greeting.

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 09:42 am

No problem, E! Technically, we all advanced one day closer to our eventual dates with the Reaper, just you did so in a more celebratory fashion.

Reggie Ho -- Friday, January 27 2006, 09:58 am

Wednesday night's Lost episode was the most boring, pointless, unexciting episode since the show started. Following the Mr. Eko story and last week's encounter with one of the Others (a.k.a. Gorton's fisherman guy), this week was a severe let down. By the end of the show, I was genuinely pissed off. What a way to go into the Olympics. Hopefully Lost will rebound in its next new episode (which at this rate is probably after March Madness) as they showed clips of Sun getting kidnapped.

High Life? Dude, that is clearly the worst of the swill. Plus I love the new commercials about "the girl in the moon" that try to turn a bottle of piss-tasting beer into some mysterious oracle. Old Style is where it's at, and I know you know that coming from South Bend.

Also Reggie, I thought that Lost episode was great. Charlie losing his mind and kidnapping babies? Intense stuff! I also love the Hurley / blond chick storyline.

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 10:29 am

I think we went down this road when you reviewed shit beers, man - I can't help it. I like me the High Life. I have no problem with the Old Style, but I don't see too much of it in Brooklyn.

Actually, I haven't had it in years, but the stuff I used to really dig in the Bend was Stroh's. And I recall more Yuengling at Corby's and Coach's than Old Style. Budweiser moved in and mainstreamed the place up.

Oh, those new ads - yeah, what is the deal with that? What happened to the guy talking about the national knockwurst? I was pretty psyched I actually guessed it was the chick in the moon speaking. 2.0's reaction: "There's a girl on the High Life bottles? Where?"

Reggie Ho -- Friday, January 27 2006, 10:53 am

By far the best cheap beer was a brand named "American." I'm not sure where it came from but a couple of cans came into my possession during Freshman year. I'm not sure the beer actually had a flavor at all, but you could not beat the patriotic feeling you got when you looked at the can which was decorated only with the word "American." Being a fan of some German beers, it is mysterious to me why a company would not come up with a generic German beer called "German?"

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 11:23 am

Or, "Jersey." You could distill the essence of your .. fine .. state right into a can.

Reggie Ho -- Friday, January 27 2006, 11:28 am

Not a bad idea. They could even have spin-offs, like a "Jersey" brand dark beer called "Passaic River" or a "Jersey" wine cooler called "Atlantic City" or a "Jersey" malted beverage called "Camden." This is pure genious. I am overcome by the entrepreneurial spirit.

E -- Friday, January 27 2006, 12:08 pm

I did the Miller Brewery tour in Milwaukee once (AD I believe you were there with me) and the girl on the moon is modeled after the guy's daughter. He actually pimped his daughter to sell beer!

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 12:23 pm

It's the American way, man.

MNP -- Friday, January 27 2006, 02:53 pm

so...given that ND can't seem to win a close game to save their lives...do you think Brey should be fired? hell no is my opinion. http://www.blueandgold.com/content/?aid=1203&p ageID=1

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 03:08 pm

I like Brey. I think he's a good coach. I don't know about his talent at developing players, though. Francis came in and his best season was arguably his freshman, *maybe* his sophomore year. Chris Thomas could've gotten drafted after his sophomore year, but stuck around for his junior season after showcasing himself for some pro teams, had a disappointing junior year, and then a terrible senior year. Quinn seems to be in a stasis, same with Falls and Cornett. Granted, I don't have nearly the hoops acumen as you, MNP, and I have actually not seen the squad play this year, but I'm in the air on Brey. Is his contract up soon? The article there makes a good point - who the hell better are we going to get? Notre Dame's not a marquee hoops job. I'm not really sure what our expectations should be for the hoops program. I know we were consistent tournament teams with Digger, but that was almost 20 years ago and the hoops landscape has changed a lot since then. I think an NCAA appearance on average of once every two years, making the occasional run to the Sweet Sixteen is honestly about as good as we're going to get unless lightning strikes.

Reggie Ho -- Friday, January 27 2006, 03:12 pm

I hear Matt Doherty is available!

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 03:19 pm

Nope, Kentucky's going to hire him.

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 03:26 pm

Fred Phelps is out to get West Virginia!

http://loganbanner.com/news/index.cfm#6815

Did I miss something? Was one of the miners gay? I don't understand this.

Man, seriously, Kansas looks so innocent sitting there in the middle of the county with its three right angles and one kinda screwy corner. And then you see news like this and are just like, "what the?"

MNP -- Friday, January 27 2006, 04:06 pm

Doherty has a new job at S. Florida (or maybe it's Central Florida). So, sadly, we can't get him back.

I think Quinn has become one heck of a point guard under Brey. He has single-handly kept us in several games...Maybe Brey just needs to get a good assistant coach who knows what to do with the big guys.

Plus, I just LIKE Brey. He has the audacity to keep wearing those mock-turtlenecks depsite them being 15 years out of style.

Bullfrog -- Friday, January 27 2006, 05:02 pm

Like they say, no ty, no problem.

Alright, I'm out of here. Everyone go get themselves a nice cold America/Jersey/Iron City/High Life/Private Men's Club to kick off the weekend. It's on me.

dave -- Saturday, January 28 2006, 12:55 am

Bullfrog -- Saturday, January 28 2006, 01:14 am

Well, better than having to have me start in center, which I hear was their next plan.. I don't know, I'm not big on giving away Mota and Marte, but I guess this Crisp kid is good for his age and still has some room to grow. Hell, I'll drink the Kool-Aid. Or eat the cereal. Whatever.

Bullfrog -- Saturday, January 28 2006, 01:15 am

And, hey, let's not talk bad about cheap beer.

dave -- Saturday, January 28 2006, 06:38 pm

well, i'm a big samuel adams fan, but i have drank plenty of cheap beer in my day. i'll stick with the good stuff.
