All my friends, they died.

Posted: 7:40 am, Friday, January 20th

I think when I first drew this, I had Ron in yet another t-shirt. The logic of getting home from a date, putting a t-shirt on and then changing your t-shirt after your buddy's date took off didn't really add up to me, so I must've changed it back. Some freaking deep insight here, right?

Not a lot today, but I promise it'll at least be more coherent than it was yesterday.

I mentioned that Count Your Sheep strip the other day, and I've since made myself go through the entire archive to catch up. What a nice strip. Laurie is kind of what Jen would be like as a mother, I think. Perhaps less sad, although Jen's not exactly been happy lately. Anyway, my circulation to my hands and feet is absolutely horrible, so this one was one of my favorites. Also, anything praising coffee is always good. If you've got the time and can tolerate the amazing cuteness of it (really, it's tremendous cute, but not disgustingly so or anything), I recommend the strip.

With that done, I'm now going through the archives of Little Dee. (I've decided I m'ise well read more webcomics, since, you know, the more you know and all.) I'm only to early '05 or so right now, but this week-long storyline is one of my favs - the crew encounters a car full of penguins who are, of course, on their way to Pittsburgh.

Speaking of Pittsburgh, the Ex-Burgher did another Tecmo Preview for this week's game against the Broncos. It is actually physically impossible for me to get enough Tecmo. Unfortunately, I exhausted my Tecmo stories last week. So I'll talk about that work pool I'm in - as I predicted, knowing the rules did nothing but jinx the hell out of me last week. I'm three back of the dude in the lead and one back of about four people. I guess I need to be more or less perfect from here on out and hope that a bunch of the folks in front of me screw up. So I'm going with the two road teams this weekend - Steelers and Panthers. The NFL seems to have passed a rule against defending Steve Smith, so I really don't see how the Seahawks can win that game. And I just want the Bus to make the Super Bowl in his hometown. Because the Bus rules. So, let's go, roadies.

Last football thing for the day, the Irish landed the top offensive lineman recruit in the country yesterday. Sam Young out of Ft. Lauderdale is the sixth and most-hyped o-line recruit the Robot Genius has landed this year (although how the hell anyone's going to be better than the dude in the middle of this picture is beyond me). He announced yesterday at 4:20 pm, which lead to all sorts of "is he a pothead?!" speculation on the NDNation boards. Then someone went ahead and linked to this Phish page that lists all the chapter 4 verses 20s in the Bible. Note the banner up top that tells us it's been 523 days since the last Phish show. God, Phish sucks. But I do like their ice cream.

Moving to baseball, I haven't made much mention of the World Baseball Classic or whatever it's called, because without Cuba in it, the whole thing is BS. Italy has a team and Cuba doesn't? Why not boot the Dominican Republic in favor of a team of Kalihari Bushmen? But Jim Caple and Buster Olney got together and made fun of A-Rod for being a lame-o and going between playing for the US, where he was born, and the Dominican Republic about eight million times. I forget if it was coworker Ivor or Ondy who said yesterday, "I hope they let him on the US and then just keep him on the bench the whole time." Sounds about right. Call of the Green Monster, for their part, took a nice shot at both A-Rod and Peyton Choke earlier in the week with one of the side headlines: "ARod Consoles Peyton Manning, Reminds Him Winning MVP Matters Most." Nice!

Also, mentioned it late last night - Theo's back with the Sox. The Sox have had a really bizarre off-season even by their standards, and that's really saying something.

Two quick ones and I'm out to let you enjoy the weekend. James Iha has resurfaced to, naturally, produce the new album by America. Of course he has. And finally, 1up does a nice little photo essay making fun of the size of the power converters for the XBox 360. Jiminy, look at the size of those freaking things. That's unbelievable.

OK, well, definitely more coherent than last night, don't know if it's any more interesting or not. I'll see you all on Monday, have a good one.

The ultimate would be A-rod breaking his leg sliding into home plate - against the Dominican Republic. My friend just went to Jeter's charity event in Tampa and said of the 25-30 athletes there, everyone was cool and friendly except for one guy, who was standoffish and clearly didn't want to be there or be bothered by anyone. Can you guess who? I'll give you a hint: he had blue lips.

Making fun of A-Rod's lips. Good times. I see now that as soon as I complain about Cuba being kept out of the baseball thingy, they're allowed in. So I'm going to complain about the war in Iraq also, in hopes that this is some sort of magic genie site for the next 24 hours or something. I would also like a pony.

I remain skeptical about any Pumpkins reunion for the time being. At most, I suspect this would be Billy, Jimmy, Melissa Auf Der Maur and maybe the dude from the Frogs or someone standing in for James. I don't see James and Billy hanging anytime soon. Especially not when James has that sweet producing gig with America.

my guess on the SP 'reunion' would be it would be a machina ii-era reunion: auf der mar, chamberlin, corgan, & iha. you can't call it smashing pumpkins without the core: jimmy, james & billy.

I was just checking today's Daily Dinosaur and the randomizer up top took me to this one. I have a new favorite Daily Dinosaur comic.
