Comic for Thursday, January 12th, 2006

Posted: 12:10 am, Thursday, January 12th
Not really a lot to talk about today, so we're just going to hit a few links and call it a day. It's been a long and trying week, and it's only Thursday. Bleh. Plus there was a thunder storm in New York last night - in January. What the hell is that? Man, Mother Nature is going to drop the fucking bomb on us for screwing her up the way we've been doing for the last hundred and thirty years or so.
Anyway, moving on to less apocalyptic stuff. I have a feeling I'm going to hate the second half of the Gilmore Girls this season. For God's sake, just let Luke and Lorelai be happy. That's all anyone wants. And keep Paris around, because she amuses Reggie Ho. Also, Lost last night - whoa. Mr. Eko is one hard-ass dude. I will say no more in case anyone missed it.
The Soxaholix yesterday was incredible. I think the strip is actually at its best when only marginally dealing with the Sox. How the hell the dude works Qaddafi's Femme Force Five into a conversation about the Sox that is riffing on James Bond is beyond me. Genius at work. "No, Mr. Rod, I expect you to die." Brilliant. I'm going to yell that at the television a lot next summer. By the way, odds on Schilling going up and in on Damon? Damon who publicly dissed the Schilling-as-closer project last summer? God, I must miss collitch football, I'm already looking forward to baseball season and we don't have a freaking shortstop.
I'm skipping over, you may notice, collitch basketball. I'm sorry, MNP, but without cable (I know, I know), it's tough for me to stay up on it. Also, the Irish: Not strong at the moment. All the Big East losses have been close, but starting 0-3 in conference? What are we, Boston College? Still, with the football program doing well again, expectations are off Brey and the boys a little bit. Not so the case in Kentucky, where their getting pantsed by - geez, I forgot, Vandy? Anyway, the Wildcats are not doing so hot, and all causing their fans to lose their sex drive. Worse, it's causing some of them to lose their sanity and say crazy stuff like "Matt Doherty should be our coach."
Oh, who am I kidding, I can't stay away from collitch football. Now that the game is over, I've halfway embraced UT-Austin, especially since my enemy's enemy is my friend.. or whatever that saying is. Point is, the Austin press is ripping on USC fans for being stingy at tailgaters, and that's funny. Outside of a Michigan fan, I'm pretty sure I'd give food to anyone who asked for some grub in the parking lot at ND.
One quick other pseudo-football one - I've linked to the insanely brilliant (I like to say brilliant a lot lately, has everyone gathered?) Marco in the past, and in the past week and a half or so, he's gone totally over the top. Beginning with this post, Marco was kidnapped by the dual evils of Sparty (the Michigan State mascot) and Karl Rove and taken to a re-education camp. The final part of his re-education was this website (the Bob Davie picture is priceless). Anyway, Marco evidently escaped, and has resumed reminding Pete Carroll that he has a girl's name. I've said it before, I'll say it again - Marco is a genius.
Speaking of blogs and genius, I've earned myself a link on the CulturePulp blog over in Oregon. It's by a dude named Mike Russell who writes for the paper the Oregonian. I have no idea how to pronouce that - I was told by my friend Cihak years ago that it's properly "Or-eh-gin". So, "Or-eh-ginian"? My first guess would be "Or-eh-go-nian," but that kind of mangles the pronunciation of Oregon I've been working with the past few years. At any rate, CulturePulp: another link that I need to add to the links page. I also think I need to put links to the dudes that link to me on the front page... I actually have an idea of how I'd like to revise the site whenever I get the time to do that. Which will be, you know, never. Took me friggin' four months to draw a 40 x 160 banner, how the hell long do you think it'll take me to redesign the site? Also: CulturePulp guy likes Jones Cola. Or at least the labels.
I have another blog I was going to link to, but I figured I'd ask permission first - AD, you mind a shout-out/link?
OK, I don't know much about this James Frey guy, but evidently he wrote A Million Little Pieces and it's a big hit. Honestly, I had no idea that book was that popular - I guess it was Oprah-ed and everything. Evidently, he made a bunch of the stuff up. Or is at least accused of making a bunch of it up. I actually didn't even know that book was about drugs and stuff - I've seen it on one of the front tables at Coliseum a lot, but never even picked it up. The one thing I do know about this book is that there's this one dude on my morning train that has been reading A Million Little Pieces for seriously about three weeks now. That's all I've got to say. Three weeks. I don't understand it.

skt -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 07:57 am lindsay lohan is also a big fan of james frey.
i'm okay with knowing that too.
CK -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 08:29 am I love that you went to the effort of putting in the names
and titles of all Ron's books.
Bullfrog -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 08:47 am Hey, extra mile, you know? I try to do stuff like that more
often, but since I'm unorganized, a lot of time I do stuff
in the background that comes out unperceivably small.
And I'm OK with you knowing it, also, Skitters. And I'm
OK with you being OK with it.
Grafe -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 09:13 am so, this is backtracking a bit, well, not really, i guess,
anyway, so i got back from vacation last night, and pretty
much went straight to bed, get up this morning, go into the
kitchen, and slip in a pool of what appears to be water.
already not a good sign, since you know, kitchen floor /=
kitchen sink. apparently, i somehow managed to leave the
freezer open while i was out and the thawing of a mighty
full freezer leaves a mighty big bloody fishy soupy mess.
so, new year's resolutions:
either 1) become OCD so i check, check, recheck, and check
to see if the freezer is closed before i leave for an
extended period of time or 2) learn how to properly pack
food for the freezer so the next time it thaws, the mess is
self contained.
AD -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 09:20 am Wow, it would totally suck if I said you couldn't link to
the site, huh? But, really, thanks for the shout-out (and
for stoppin' by). I'll even pimp it myself.

Bullfrog -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 02:27 pm Eh, I just didn't want to throw it up there in case you
didn't want it made all that public - I have a few I
withhold for various reasons.
dave -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 05:08 pm Nice Rage Against The Machine quote: 'All of which are
American dreams.' Indeed; Know Your Enemy.
MNP -- Thursday, January 12 2006, 05:11 pm This whole Iran situation is beginning to feel awfully like
pre-invasion Iraq...I'm starting to get worried.
