OK, so the boys may very well be still sitting on the couch.

Man, you can always tell when I come back to drawing this strip from an extended break - the girls' hair looks different in every panel. This is why I'm not an animator, folks. That and I think doing animation would be beyond brain-numbing. Also: did I put enough red in these panels? Red:this strip::Laura Quinn:ABC's Fiesta Bowl coverage. Oh, other thing about this strip, and one from a few weeks ago: I was going through some older strips, and back when the gang saw Sleater-Kinney, Lissa says that she only has two younger brothers. As you can see, I have done some revisionist history. It was unintentional, but since it's done, I'm sticking with it. So, as of this writing, Lissa has one younger brother and one younger sister. Her parents are past child-bearing age, so that is the way it will remain. I'll be updating the old strip in the archives to erase all record of this evidence of my fallability.

Of new music acquired o'er the Christmas break, I have only given cursory listens to some of what I've picked up. But Edan is very interesting psychedelic hiphop (triphop? is that a thing? if it's a thing, this is probably it), and the Go! Team is like a J-pop Andrew W.K., in English (not that Andrew W.K. isn't in English, but J-pop typically isn't). Speaking of Andrew W.K., he has a DVD coming out soon. No word on the new album that I've heard, though. Not harboring high hopes for the DVD, since it's being distributed by some company I've never heard of, but it can't be the debacle that H2O's self-distributed-from-the-back-of-the-van, won't-work-in-most-players DVD is.

I never got around to putting up links yesterday, what with everyone returning to the office for basically the first time in two weeks and realizing they needed to get stuff done and giving it to me to do (also, I took down that awesome tree). About the only one I remember wanting to post was this one, to explain the 'bad Vermeer' comment I made. I didn't want anyone to think we were drinking liquified paintings by the Dutch master. That would just be weird.

Speaking of Dutch masters, you know why everyone just calls him 'Rembrandt'? Not because he's only got one name, like Cher - quick side story, Song for the Lonely or whatever was playing in the bagel place the other day when 2.0 and I went to pick up cold cuts. 2.0 turns to me in all seriousness and says, 'This was big in the gay clubs a few years back.' Shocking! No, Rembrandt goes by just Rembrandt because the rest of his name is a monstrosity.

I'm rereading (mock if you will) Harry Potter 6 right now, and was struck with the urge to drop in on JK Rowling's site yesterday to see if any new stuff had been posted. Sure enough, if you unwrap the package on her desk, she says that 2006 is the year that she will write the final book. This is frigging thrilling, as it means - I'm estimating - a June/July 2007 release of Harry Potter 7. Two years between books is cool - the three between Goblet and Order, if I had to redo that, that may be tough.

And, finally, New York mag's 100 best restaurants. The Applewood place in Brooklyn is near us and we've been meaning to try it out. Of course, now it will be crowded. Sounds like burritos again, then.

bullfrog: hope you had a good holiday. i was in albany for some of it, myself. sorry about the tough loss to ohio state. is your mention of the bagel place terrace bagels? great bagels & coffee, but the united meat market across the street om prospect park west is much better. try their homemade roast beef.

you know, lissa's parents could still have more children. There is something call the Fertile Octigenarian Rule (it refers to a very unpopular property concept).

Applewood is great, friendly, homey, and delicious. A bit expensive, so save up if you're going for dinner; but they do a really nice and reasonably-priced brunch too.

I'm sorry about the Buckeyes, btw, but I loved your haiku yesterday. Do you have a pick for the Rose Bowl?

My prediction: Pain.

Clubber Lang from Rocky III folks, isn't he great? OK, seriously, for the Rose Bowl - pretty sure USC is just going to roll. Was planning on rooting for Texas, but I don't know if I have it in me. I'm probably going to just try and ignore it and not think about Holmes and Ginn running willynilly past defenders tripping all over themselves.

I reject the challenge, because Balboa is no challenge. But I would be more than happy to beat up on him some more.

God, what a movie.
