Shady's back, back again. Hey, everyone, hope the holidays were rockin'. Sorry for the non-update on Friday - we rolled back into Brooklyn at about eleven-ish and had plenty of unpacking to do and then decided to watch an episode of the Undeclared DVD that 2.0 got me for Christmas instead of write anything about the week for you all to read. Very selfish of me, I know. But, hey, the good news is that I've got a strip up today, which is a lot better than I managed to do last year this time. I should know better than to try and do work on anything over Christmas - I didn't even turn the computer on the entire time I was upstate, and I only got this masterpiece written while at the office on Friday. Next year, I'm just leaving the computer home and forgetting all about everything.
So, speaking of upstate, my God did I watch a lot of television. 2.0's parents have ye olde cable, and we plunked ourselves in front of VH1 for an obscenely long time. That celebreality song is stuck in my head something fierce. By the time the fourth episode of I Love the 80s Strike Back started, I really felt my thought process slowing. And I Love the 80s 3D? Man, they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. I guess there's only two hours of things worth remembering for each year of the 80s. But, still, I figured this was the best way to write anything about the Fiesta Bowl without actually writing anything about the Fiesta Bowl. Although I guess if I really didn't want to risk anything jinx-y, I wouldn't've mentioned Samardzija catching a ball or a touchdown being scored, but I'm hoping those are pretty sure things. Oh, and for a neat little history of the monster bash and other goofy celebrations, check out this golden oldie from Slate.
Had more that I meant to write today, but since it's already almost nine, I ought to just post what I've got and save the rest for tomorrow, I think. Here's two fun little flash things to keep you busy for a second before the Five Bucks to Friday Fiesta Bowl Preview - one's a bizarre movie of Michael Jackson from the Moonwalker Sega game vs. just about everyone (my favorite is the clip from Bases Loaded toward the beginning), and the second is a thing falling down a hill. I actually clapped, I loved that one so much.
OK, now, quickly, so I can get this up - the Irish play the Buckeyes of the Ohio State University today. I fear the Bucks a bit more than Marco does, but lack the insight that the Blue-Gray Sky has to explain why this is. Part of my fear of the Bucks could be their legions of troglodyte fans - the first game Notre Dame lost (of many) in my career as a student was to the Bucks, and those red-clad oafs stormed our field and started shit with our band. For all the heckling I've ever done of the Michigan band (since I know 2.0 will bring this up in the comments, anyway), I've never thought about storming into the middle of them and pushing them to the ground. I just like to remind them that Michigan sucks (although they did get screwed by the refs in the MasterCard Bowl the other day). Anyway, I have faith that the Robot Genius will get revenge for me for the '96 game, and will get the Irish the lead in the all-time series against the Bucks. Co-worker Ivor predicts the Irish 35-31, which makes me nervous, but I think the squad will overcome Ivor's faith in them to actually win.
Notre Dame 38, the Ohio State University 24.
Go Irish, beat Buckeyes!

Secretary -- Monday, January 2 2006, 10:52 am The Buckeyes are actually SCARLET-clad oafs ;-) My mother
is disappointed that I pledged my allegiance to the
boyfriend's team rather than my hometown team for today's
game. Eh...even living 15 minutes away from OSU campus for
most of my life, I've managed to absorb about as little as
humanly possible about Buckeye athletics. Go Irish!
And I'm so happy Five Bucks is back!
E -- Monday, January 2 2006, 02:35 pm I LOVE TO HATE OHIO STATE!!!!!
Don't forget that the OSU fans sprayed the IRISH band
with pepper spray in Columbus the year before (1995).
Seriously folks, leave the band geeks alone. They are a
peaceful people.
And for those who have yet to watch ESPN coverage today,
apparently M. Clarett has been charged with armed robbery,
but is still at large.
GO IRISH!!
